A new calibration technique for microwave moisture sensors [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 17th IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference [Cat. No. 00CH37066], 2001
A new calibration technique was developed for implementation with microwave moisture sensors. The calibration permittivity function used for this purpose allows computation of moisture content in granular materials with significant differences in shape, dimensions, and composition, independent of bulk density and with temperature compensation.

Understanding the polarization signal of spherical particles for microwave limb radiances

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a simple conceptual model to explain that even spherical scatterers lead to a polarization difference signal for microwave limb radiances.

Time Series Consistency of Passive Microwave Sensors (1978–2023) Brightness Temperature Data for Snow Depth Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Passive microwave remote sensing offers all-weather, all-day observations, but sensor inconsistencies hinder long-term continuity and multisensor integration for surface parameters estimation. This study proposed methods to improve brightness temperature

High responsive microwave resonator sensor for material characterization [PDF]

open access: yes
This work describes the planning and execution of a planar microwave resonator sensor for a sensing application based on the perturbation idea, in which the quality factor (QF) and the resonance frequency are affected by the resonator's dielectric ...

An Electrically Small Patch Antenna Sensor for Salt Concentration Measurement of NaCl Solution

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR)-based patch antenna is proposed as a microwave sensor to measure the salt concentration of NaCl solution. The microwave sensor consists of an RF-4 substrate, where a small copper disc is attached

Historical and real-time estimation of snow depth in Eurasia based on multiple passive microwave data

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research, 2023
Current snow depth datasets demonstrate large discrepancies in the spatial pattern in Eurasia, and the lagging updates of datasets do not meet the operational requirements of the meteorological service department. This study developed a dynamic retrieval
