The relationship between seasonal mean temperature and most extreme day

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
In Northern Hemisphere winter, there is a strong correlation between seasonal mean temperature and coldest daily mean temperature which varies in magnitude from one region to another (with a weaker relationship in summer between mean and hottest day).

Connectivity and divergence of symbiotic bacteria of deep-sea hydrothermal vent mussels in relation to the structure and dynamics of mid-ocean ridges

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The population divergence process of deep-sea vent invertebrates is driven by both biotic (e.g., dispersal during the larval stage) and abiotic factors such as deep-ocean currents, depth, and the geological setting of vents.

Age, Depth, and Residual Depth Anomalies in the North Pacific: Implications for Thermal Models of the Lithosphere and Upper Mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
We present an empirical basement depth versus age relation for the North Pacific Ocean, based on the statistical treatment of an ocean-wide gridded data set.

Isolation, Insularity and Resilience: A Review of the Geophysical, Socioeconomic, and Environmental Vulnerabilities of Gran Canaria and Lesvos Islands for Policy Interventions to Global Change

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The dynamic nature of small islands being geographically isolated and their perceived connectedness with global networks complicates research attempts to draw general conclusions on whether insularity leads to marginalization or strengthens their resilience for sustainable development.

Lava Geochemistry as a Probe into Crustal Formation at the East Pacific Rise [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
Basalt lavas comprise the greatest volume of volcanic rocks on Earth, and most of them erupt along the world's mid-ocean ridges (MORs). These MOR basalts (MORBs) are generally thought to be relatively homogeneous in composition over large segments of the

Magma genesis by rifting of oceanic lithosphere above anomalous mantle: Terceira Rift, Azores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
[1] The Terceira Rift formed relatively recently (∼1 Ma ago) by rifting of the old oceanic lithosphere of the Azores Plateau and is currently spreading at a rate of 2–4mm/a.

Distance sampling: comparing walked transects and road transects for rock ptarmigan densities and population trends

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
We compared population trends for rock ptarmigan Lagopus muta densities (2003‒2019) derived from walked transects and driven road transects in Mosfellsheiði and Slétta in southwest and northeast Iceland, respectively. The walked transects were laid out according to a random rule.

Ocean bottom seismic model in the Knipovich Ridge area [PDF]

open access: yesPolish Polar Research
The structure of the oceanic crust generated by the ultraslow-spreading mid-ocean Knipovich Ridge still remains relatively uninvestigated compared to the other North Atlantic spreading ridges further south. The complexity of the Knipovich Ridge, with its

Seismic evidence for uniform crustal accretion along slow-spreading ridges in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Uniform magmatic crust formed at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean reveals a two-dimensional mantle upwelling facilitated by the large transform faults and the high concentration of volatiles in the primitive melt in the mantle.

The International Guideline for the Definition, Classification, Diagnosis and Management of Urticaria

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This update and revision of the international guideline for urticaria was developed in accordance with the methods recommended by Cochrane and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) working group. It is an initiative of the Global Allergy and Asthma Excellence Network (GA2LEN) and its Urticaria and ...
