Middle Cretaceous Andean‐Type Arc Evolution in the Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone (Shalair Valley), Iraq: New Geochronological and Geochemical Constraints

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The middle Cretaceous granitoid plutons of the Shalair Valley, situated in northeastern Iraq, constitute a principal magmatic component of the Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone within the northwestern segment of the Zagros Orogenic Belt. Among these plutons, the equigranular Aulan body (AG) and the porphyritic Laladar body (LG) were crystallized at 111.0 ±

Rift Development, Tectonic Forcings, and Magmatic Feedbacks at Santorini and Kolumbo Volcanoes Constrained by Scientific Drilling and Core‐Seismic Integration

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Volcanism in continental rifts, rifted volcanic arcs, and back‐arc basins is fundamentally coupled with crustal extension. However, the precise geometry and timing of the fault systems that facilitate magma transport and accommodate extension remain poorly constrained.

The Seismic Signature of the Atlantis Massif Oceanic Detachment Fault Determined From Crystallographic Preferred Orientation and Microstructure

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract At slow‐spreading mid‐ocean ridges large scale detachment faults partly accommodate the spreading process. The mafic and ultramafic rocks at the ridges are infiltrated by water and change their mineralogy. Subsequently or contemporaneously to these reactions, detachment faulting takes place.

Structure and Dynamics of the Antarctic Slope and Weddell Fronts Along the SR04 WOCE Section Based on Four Oceanographic Cruises (2007–2022)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The Antarctic Slope Current (ASC) and the Weddell Front‐associated Current (WFC) form a system of bottom‐intensified jets found in the continental slope of the Antarctic peninsula, acting as major conduits for the export of dense Weddell Sea waters into the global overturning circulation.

Eddy‐Mean Flow Interactions Sustaining the Anomalous Deep Convection Off Prydz Bay in the Subpolar Southern Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract A remarkable deep‐convection event developed off Prydz Bay in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean during the austral autumn‐winter of 2017, coinciding with a previously documented anomalous accumulation of eddy kinetic energy. During this event, warm Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW) shoaled toward the upper ocean despite strong surface ...
