Eddy‐Mean Flow Interactions Sustaining the Anomalous Deep Convection Off Prydz Bay in the Subpolar Southern Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract A remarkable deep‐convection event developed off Prydz Bay in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean during the austral autumn‐winter of 2017, coinciding with a previously documented anomalous accumulation of eddy kinetic energy. During this event, warm Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW) shoaled toward the upper ocean despite strong surface ...

Hydrographic Variability and Sound‐Channel Dynamics in the Nordic Seas: Implications for Predicting Acoustic Arrival Structure

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Warm, saline Atlantic waters and fresher Arctic‐origin waters converge in the central Nordic Seas, creating strong mesoscale and submesoscale variability that influences both hydrography and sound propagation. During the Northern Ocean Rapid Surface Evolution 2022 experiment, high‐resolution temperature and salinity measurements were collected

Generation of Submesoscale Vortices by Tidal Currents Near a Water Headland

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract This study investigates the generation of high‐frequency, submesoscale vortices by baroclinic tidal flow near a coastal headland off southeast Korea. Using a combination of shipboard surveys and a triangular array of three bottom‐mounted acoustic Doppler current profilers, we characterize the structure and dynamics of these motions.

Sensitivity of Soil Chemical Erosion Rate to Climate and Dust Along a 2.8‐km Elevation Transect at San Jacinto Mountain, California

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Chemical weathering is of wide interest because it breaks down minerals, releases nutrients, weakens rock, and draws down atmospheric CO2. To quantify the sensitivity of soil chemical erosion rate to climate and dust, we measured soil chemical erosion rate, dust deposition rate, and soil climate at 18 ridgetop sites along a ∼2.8‐km elevation ...

Multi‐Model Ensemble Knowledge Distillation With Physics Constraints for Numerical Weather Prediction Bias Correction

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Accurate Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) is of paramount importance for global climate change response and sustainable development. Although numerical models such as the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model are widely applied in operational forecasting, they exhibit significant systematic biases under complex atmospheric conditions,
