The crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

1986
Abstract By 1854, there were enough deep ocean soundings to allow M. F. Maury to draw the first bathymetric chart of the North Atlantic Ocean in 1855. He defined the great shoaling “middle ground” of the Atlantic basin, later to be known as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR).

Magnetic Anomalies over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge

Nature, 1963
THE intensity of the Earth's magnetic field over the Atlantic Ocean has been measured on a number of flights organized by the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys of Canada and also under Project Magnet (U.S. Hydrographic Office). Some of these flights passed over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the magnetic observations show that there are large ...

Sedimentary Serpentinites from the Mid-atlantic Ridge

SEPM Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1973
ABSTRACT Indurated sedimentary rocks with serpentine minerals as major components were recovered from the lower slopes of transverse ridges associated with the Romanche Fracture Zone in the equatorial Mid-Atlantic Ridge. In addition to serpentine minerals, sedimentary serpentinites from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge contain grains of diopside, enstatite ...

Age Relationships of Mid-Atlantic Ridge Sediments

1970
Despite the fact that outcrops on the ocean bottom cannot be observed, it is often possible to make meaningful inferences about age relationships of Mid-Atlantic Ridge sediments by paleontologic methods. Data are briefly reviewed here to illustrate the utility of these methods.

Report reviews studies of mid-Atlantic ridge

Physics Today, 1973
A new report, Understanding the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has been issued by the National Academy of Sciences. The report outlines an orderly approach to a comprehensive study of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It reviews present knowledge and hypotheses, states major unsolved problems and possible methods of solution, and presents outlines of recommended programs ...

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge Near 45 °N. XXII. Sedimentary Deposition and Lithogenesis on Mid-Atlantic Ridge Mountain Tops

Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1974
Bottom photographs and drilled rock cores collected on several mountain tops along the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge near 45°N describe the sediment distribution, sediment dynamics and shallow stratigraphy of these sites. Lag pebble deposits and pebble waves indicate rapid changes in bottom current direction and velocities that may approach 100 cm/s

Magmatic evolution on the mid-atlantic ridge

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1967
Abstract Recent field and experimental evidence is used to produce a model which explains the generation and characteristics of the basalts found on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Multiple cycles of partial melting of the upper mantle, related to tectonic patterns beneath the axis of the Ridge, are thought to generate the different magma types.
