The Master's Problem: Revisiting Hegel's Critique of Social Domination

Abstract This paper argues for a reinterpretation of Hegel's internal critique of the master in his famous ‘Master–Slave Dialectic.’ Hegel argues that, in addition to the evident injustice suffered by the enslaved, the arrangement also undermines the master's own purposes.

Defining the role of αC helix interactions in the activation of the integrin αI domain

The α2I domain of the α2β1 integrin contains a distinctive αC helix and a conserved Arg288‐Glu318 ion pair that stabilizes the closed state of the domain. Disruption of this ion pair in the activated α2I variant unwinds the αC helix, which allows interaction with additional collagen‐binding sites increasing collagen binding.

The Distributional Effects of Economic Uncertainty*

International Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the distributional implications of uncertainty shocks by developing a model that links macroeconomic aggregates to the US distribution of earnings and consumption. Our findings suggest that the fraction of low‐earning workers decreases initially, while the share of households reporting low consumption increases.
