[MRI of middle cerebral artery occlusion].

Magnetic resonance imagings (MRIs) of ten patients with angiographically proved middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion were retrospectively reviewed. Eight of the ten patients had cerebral infarcts, one had an intraventricular hemorrhage, and the remaining one had no significant abnormalities.

Outcome following occlusion of the middle cerebral artery

Outcome was studied prospectively in 28 consecutive patients with occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). They comprise a subgroup of 101 consecutive patients with TIA or stroke less than or equal to 75 years of age, admitted within 72 h after the stroke. Cerebral angiography and CT-scan were performed within 1-2 days of admission.

Rat Model of Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion

Stroke is the third-leading cause of death and the leading cause of acquired adult disability worldwide. Several ischemic stroke models are currently available. However, mimicking focal cerebral ischemia (FCI) is the most common. The formation of an embolic or thrombotic occlusion at or near the middle cerebral artery causes most events in FCI.
