Middle Devonian Bentonite in Michigan Basin
AAPG Bulletin, 1974Abstract The name “Kawkawlin Bentonite” is proposed for a thin subsurface bentonitic dsh-fall bed in the Michigan basin Lucas Formation (upper Detroit River Group, Middle Devonian). Post-Detroit River emergence and erosion of the flanks of the basin resulted in truncation of the ash bed to its present limits.

Tetrapod-like middle ear architecture in a Devonian fish
Nature, 2006Few fossils show the incipient stages of complex morphological transformations. For example, the earliest stages in the remodelling of the spiracular tract and suspensorium (jaw suspension) of osteolepiform fishes into the middle ear of tetrapods have remained elusive.
