Ventilation scintigraphy of the middle ear.

Journal of nuclear medicine : official publication, Society of Nuclear Medicine, 1997
In this study, an attempt was made to administer radioactive gas into the tympanic cavity to measure initial gas trappings as well as clearance from the middle ear to evaluate eustachian tube function.Twenty-eight patients were administered 50 MBq 133Xe gas.

Dependence of Middle Ear Gas Composition on Pulmonary Ventilation

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1997
The middle ear (ME) steady state gas composition resembles that of mixed venous blood. We changed arterial and venous blood gases by artificially ventilating anesthetized guinea pigs and measured simultaneous ME gas changes during spontaneous breathing, hyperventilation, and hypoventilation.

The Middle Ear Gas Composition in Air-Ventilated Dogs

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1980
The middle ear gas composition has been examined in 5 air-ventilated dogs under sodium thiopentone anesthesia. The gas samples were obtained by transtympanic puncture and analysed by gas chromatography. The following mean +/- S.D. gas composition was obtained: N2 83.2 +/- 5.0; O2 12.1 +/- 2.2; and CO2 4.7 +/- 0.7.

Swimming unprotected with long‐shafted middle ear ventilation tubes

The Laryngoscope, 1985
AbstractPatients, parents, and physicians are all concerned about the risks of swimming unprotected with middle ear ventilation tubes. The risks have not previously been carefully quantified or correlated with the degree of swimming activity. In this study, 53 children with tympanometrically proven patent long‐shafted tubes were allowed to swim ...

Cholesteatoma in Relation to Middle-Ear Ventilation

2001
