Abstract The baphetoids represent a clade of the Carboniferous stem‐tetrapods (Middle Mississippian—Middle Pennsylvanian) with a characteristic extension of the orbits into antorbital vacuities, which formed keyhole‐shaped openings on the skull. Selective coordination of gold ions to mismatched cytosines in nucleic acid duplexes is achieved via oxidation‐state‐dependent interactions. While Au(I) binds to natural cytosine–cytosine pairs, cytosine thiolation promotes square‐planar coordination with Au(III), offering a structure‐guided approach to redox‐tunable nucleic acid architectures.
