A new midwater trawl for sampling discrete depth horizons

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1969
A new midwater trawl based on that designed by Tucker (1951) is described with details of opening and closing equipment, acoustic release gear and depth telemetering pinger. An account is given of the method used in operating the xtrawl from R.R.S. ‘Discovery’.

One-boat midwater trawling with unequal panelled trawl

1983
Results of the comparative efficiency studies with 10.5 m equal panelled and 10.3 m unequal panelled midwater trawls operated from 10.9 m wooden trawler are presented. Out of the two nets, the latter proved to be relatively good for the capture of off bottom and column fishes like pomfrets, seer, lactarius, catfish, silver bar, ribbon fish and an ...

Fish behaviour in response to a midwater trawl footrope in temperate reservoirs

Fisheries Research, 2015
Abstract This study addresses fish behaviour at the mouth of a midwater trawl in two temperate reservoirs. Fish distribution and behaviour were monitored using a SIMRAD EK60 (38 kHz) split-beam echosounder with the transducer deployed at the water surface, attached to the surface trawl headrope.

Stepped-Oblique Midwater Trawling as an Assessment Technique for Rainbow Smelt

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 1991
Abstract Discrete-depth midwater trawling for rainbow smelt Osmerus mordax at night in Lake Champlain revealed a delayed vertical migration of smaller fish and size partitioning vertically within the water column. These behavioral observations led to the development and evaluation of a nighttime stepped-oblique midwater trawling technique.

Economics of gill netting and two boat midwater trawling

1988
The paper deals with the economic aspects of operation of gill netting and two boat midwater trawling conducted off Cochin. The data collected on two boat midwater trawling and gill netting during 1979 and 1980-81 are presented. Gill netting was profitable at the range of 17.5 and 25.2% while two midwater trawling was profitable at the rate of 18.5 %.

Depth control of a midwater trawl gear using fuzzy logic

Fisheries Research, 1995
Abstract This paper describes the model of a simplified trawl system and the design of a control system that uses a fuzzy algorithm in controlling the depth of a midwater trawl net. The practicality of the control system was examined using computer simulation.

Studies on bridle lengths in one-boat midwater trawling

1982
Investigation on the comparative fishing trials to study the effect of bridles for a 10.5 m four equal panelled one-boat midwater trawl are described. Three bridle lengths of 20, 30 and 40 m were tested for relative efficiency evaluation. 30m bridles are found to be more suitable for the particular design and arbitrary selection of bridle lengths would
