Modeling of a midwater trawl system with respect to the vertical movements
Fisheries Science, 2000SUMMARY: A mathematical model of the midwater trawl system is presented to aid in understanding the dynamic behavior. The equations of motions for the trawl system have been obtained using Lagrange's equation with respect to variables of the displacement of the trawler, the length of the warp connecting the trawler and otter board, the angle of the ...

The Influence of an Electric Light on the Capture of Oceanic Cephalopods by a Midwater Trawl
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1998A total of 57 comparative hauls using a rectangular midwater trawl with a fishing mouth area of 50 m2 (RMT 50) were carried out along the sides of an imaginary triangle south of Madeira in 1986. A total of 1258 cephalopods were caught, giving a mean of 22 per haul with a range from 0 to 67.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from fisheries are of primary concern because of their effects on the environment. GHG emissions from fisheries are mainly related to their fuel consumption. Furthermore, the fuel consumption of fisheries also influences their economics. Therefore, many studies have been conducted to find ways of reducing fuel consumption

Application of a fuzzy controller to depth control of a midwater trawl net
Fisheries Science, 2000SUMMARY: A control system is presented that uses a fuzzy algorithm in controlling the depth of a midwater trawl net, and field experiments carried out on the training ship Kaya of Pukyong National University. The fuzzy controller calculates the length of the warp to be changed, based on the depth error between the desired depth and actual depth of ...

A new midwater trawl for sampling discrete depth horizons
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1969A new midwater trawl based on that designed by Tucker (1951) is described with details of opening and closing equipment, acoustic release gear and depth telemetering pinger. An account is given of the method used in operating the xtrawl from R.R.S. ‘Discovery’.

Fish behaviour in response to a midwater trawl footrope in temperate reservoirs
Fisheries Research, 2015Abstract This study addresses fish behaviour at the mouth of a midwater trawl in two temperate reservoirs. Fish distribution and behaviour were monitored using a SIMRAD EK60 (38 kHz) split-beam echosounder with the transducer deployed at the water surface, attached to the surface trawl headrope.

Stepped-Oblique Midwater Trawling as an Assessment Technique for Rainbow Smelt
North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 1991Abstract Discrete-depth midwater trawling for rainbow smelt Osmerus mordax at night in Lake Champlain revealed a delayed vertical migration of smaller fish and size partitioning vertically within the water column. These behavioral observations led to the development and evaluation of a nighttime stepped-oblique midwater trawling technique.

Depth control of a midwater trawl gear using fuzzy logic
Fisheries Research, 1995Abstract This paper describes the model of a simplified trawl system and the design of a control system that uses a fuzzy algorithm in controlling the depth of a midwater trawl net. The practicality of the control system was examined using computer simulation.
