Physical Origin of Temperature Induced Activation Energy Switching in Electrically Conductive Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The temperature‐induced Arrhenius activation energy switching phenomenon of electrical conduction in electrically conductive cement originates from structural degradation within the biphasic ionic‐electronic conduction architecture and shows percolation‐governed characteristics: pore network opening dominates the low‐percolation regime with downward ...

Externalisation of Migration Controls: A Taxonomy of Practices and Their Implications in International and European Law

open access: yesNetherlands International Law Review
The externalisation of migration and border controls refers to a series of practices whereby States attempt to manage migration flows and enforce immigration policies beyond their borders, often by collaborating with other countries or non-state actors ...

Dealing with Law in migration control: The Powers of Street-level bureaucrats at French Consulates

open access: yes, 2014
This article examines how street-level bureaucrats within migration control use their scope for discretionary powers. On the basis of two ethnographic studies of French consulates in Yaoundé and Tunis, we argue that state agents' practices are ...

Terrorism and migration law

open access: yes, 2014
What is the relationship between international law, migration and terrorism? In this chapter I examine how international law in the field of refugee protection, international protection against torture, criminal law in the form of the anti trafficking protocol and international labour migration intersect with national security concerns and terrorism ...

Polymorphic Superparaelectric Engineering Boosting Energy Storage Capacity in BaTiO3‐Based Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, Ca2+ incorporation promotes the coexistence of CaTiO3‐/BaTiO3‐derived paraferroelectric states, stabilizing cubic‐orthorhombic‐tetragonal polymorphic superparaelectric phases. This minimizes polarization energy barriers, facilitating full polarization saturation without compromising efficiency.

Ferroelectric Devices for In‐Memory and In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological systems, in‐memory and in‐sensor computing overcome von Neumann bottlenecks. Ferroelectric devices can mimic synaptic functions and sense stimuli like light or force, therefore are ideal for these paradigms. This review introduces the ferroelectric devices applied for in‐memory and in‐sensor computing, covering their structures ...

An Efficient Biological Codon Recognition Reservoir Computing System Based on Low‐Energy Epitaxial Hf0.52Zr0.48O2 Ferroelectric Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reports on epitaxially grown Hf0.52Zr0.48O2 ferroelectric memristors with high stability (high durability exceeding 108 cycles and a retention time exceeding 104 s for 16 states) and ultra‐low operating energy consumption (∼121 fJ). A memristor array‐based reservoir computing system is constructed and applied for the first time in the field ...

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...
