Migratory Fishes of South America
2004Fish species that migrate within the great rivers of South America support important local fisheries but are little known outside their native range. This book, written specially for the World Bank and the International Development Research Centre, represents the first collection of the work of local scientific experts on these remarkable fish.

Freshwater to Seawater Transitions in Migratory Fishes
2012The transition from freshwater to seawater is integral to the life history of many fishes. Diverse migratory fishes express anadromous, catadromous, and amphidromous life histories, while others make incomplete transits between freshwater and seawater.

PARASITE GENOTYPES IDENTIFY SOURCE POPULATIONS OF MIGRATORY FISH MORE ACCURATELY THAN FISH GENOTYPES
Ecology, 2006DNA-based assignment of individuals to their population of origin has many applications such as mixed-stock analysis, identifying individuals from protected populations, and elucidating migration patterns. However, low genetic differentiation among populations will cause misassignments.

Dams crossing by migratory fishes
1992In order to allow the migration of fishes in rivers with dams, fish passes have been installed. The first results from these installations have led to some progress in the dimensioning technique and in the choice of the system type depending on the species.

Cryopreservation of sperm in Brazilian migratory fish conservation
Journal of Fish Biology, 2003Simple, effective protocols for cryopreserving milt of five Brazilian migratory characids (Brycon orbignyanus, Prochilodus lineatus, Piaractus mesopotamicus, Salminus maxillosus and Leporinus elongatus) and one Brazilian migratory catfish (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans) are described.

Transport of Seaweeds by Tagged Migratory Fish Populations
Botanica Marina, 1992A striped bass (Roccus saxatilis) that was tagged and released from the Potomac River, Maryland (Chesapeake Bay) was caught within the Great Bay Estuary System (New Hampshire/Maine). It bore a plastic identification tag densely clothed with 12 macroalgae, including 1 species of colonial diatom, 5 green and 6 red algal species.

An Introduction to Modeling Migratory Behavior of Fishes
1984This paper reviews models of basic fish movement patterns and their incorporation into models of fish migration. Computer simulations of various types of kineses and taxes have led researchers to the conclusion that only certain types of turning response are capable of producing directed movement of organisms.
