Rebalancing the Military Profession
2011Abstract : This paper contends bureaucratic functions have dominated the profession of the U.S. Military as far back as the Vietnam War. A rebalancing is long over-due. This thesis is supported through a review of literature on the military profession and a survey of past U.S. Army studies regarding the profession.

This article clarifies the terminology, suggests some definitions, and evaluates these models. The clarification of terminology is necessary for the subsequent critique of the theoretical bases of Charles Moskos's well-known Institution/Occupation (I/O) model.
