Consumption of healthy and unhealthy foods by the African poor: Evidence from Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 53, Issue 6, Page 870-894, November 2022., 2022
Abstract We use national Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) datasets from Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda to examine consumption by the rural and urban poor of “unhealthy foods” (including ultra‐processed foods such as sweets and sugary beverages) versus “healthy foods” beyond starchy staples (such as vegetables, beans, animal products, and fruits)

Human milk use in Australian hospitals, 1949-1985 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper provides a literature review of the use of donor human milk by hospitals in Australia and elsewhere from the postwar period through to the early 1980s, and establishes the context for a small study of practices which happened in that period ...

Transplanting neural stem cells overexpressing miRNA‐21 can promote neural recovery after cerebral hemorrhage through the SOX2/LIN28‐let‐7 signaling pathway

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) remains a devastating neurological disorder with limited therapeutic options. Neural stem cell (NSC)‐based therapies have emerged as a potential regenerative approach, yet the molecular mechanisms regulating NSC behavior require further elucidation.

Annihilative fractals of coffee on milk formed by Rayleigh-Taylor instability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
We have discovered a new fractal pattern, coffee exhibits on a horizontal surface, with a fractal dimension $1.88 \pm 0.06$, when a heavy coffee droplet interacts with the surface of lighter milk. Parts of coffee pattern on the surface disappear due to Rayleigh-Taylor instability, and the annihilative behavior produces the fractal pattern.

Restoring Food System Resilience in a Turbulent World: Supply Chain Actors' Shared Responsibility

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ecological and economic crises increasingly affect the long‐term resilience of the food supply chain. This qualitative study draws on semistructured interviews and public evidence to analyse the perspectives of British supply chain actors. Asking which pathways towards food system resilience arise and which forms of social and environmental ...

Perceptions of community-based human milk banks before and after training in a resource-limited South African setting

open access: yes, 2016
Background. Human breastmilk provides gold standard nutrition and immunological support to infants. For low birth weight, HIV-infected, HIV-exposed or otherwise vulnerable babies, it can mean the difference between life and death.

Analysis pipeline to quantify uterine gland structural variations

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Technical advances in whole tissue imaging and clearing have allowed 3D reconstruction of exocrine uterine glands deep‐seated in the endometrium. However, there are limited gland structure analysis platforms to analyze these imaging data sets. Here, we present a pipeline for segmenting and analyzing uterine gland shape.
