Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Method and tool for machining a transverse slot about a bore [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A method and apparatus for cutting a transverse slot about a bore of smaller diameter than that of the slot are disclosed. The invention consists of introducing a cutting head facing transversely to the bore, through the bore opening its distance from ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Yang–Mills Replacement [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Geometric Analysis, 2017
We develop an analog of harmonic replacement in the gauge theory context. The idea behind harmonic replacement dates back to Schwarz and Perron. The technique, as introduced by Jost and further developed by Colding and Minicozzi, involves taking a map $v\colon \to M$ defined on a surface $ $ and replacing its values on a small ball $B^2\subset ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

The Impact of High‐Productivity Processing on the Fatigue Failure of an Additive Manufactured Superalloy HAYNES 282

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The low cycle fatigue life of additive manufactured HAYNES® 282® superalloy was investigated for conventional and high‐productivity processing: samples of the former lasted 1400–1700 cycles, while samples of the latter failed at ~ 1200 cycles, at 760 °C and 1% strain.

A New Agro/Forestry Residues Co-Firing Model in a Large Pulverized Coal Furnace: Technical and Economic Assessments

open access: yesEnergies, 2013
Based on the existing biomass co-firing technologies and the known innate drawbacks of dedicated biomass firing, including slagging, corrosion and the dependence on fuel, a new model of agro/forestry residue pellets/shreds and coal co-fired in a large ...
