Submillimeter and millimeter masers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2007
AbstractDespite theoretical predictions of the existence of many submillimeter masers, and some pioneering observational discoveries over the past few decades, these lines have remained relatively unstudied due to (i) challenges associated with observing at shorter wavelength; and, (ii) the lack of possibility of high (< 14″ at 345 GHz) angular ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Arbitrarily rotating polarization direction and manipulating phases in linear and nonlinear ways using programmable metasurface

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications
Independent controls of various properties of electromagnetic (EM) waves are crucially required in a wide range of applications. Programmable metasurface is a promising candidate to provide an advanced platform for manipulating EM waves. Here, we propose

A rotating cavity for high-field angle-dependent microwave spectroscopy of low-dimensional conductors and magnets

open access: yes, 2005
The cavity perturbation technique is an extremely powerful method for measuring the electrodynamic response of a material in the millimeter- and sub-millimeter spectral range (10 GHz to 1 THz), particularly in the case of high-field/frequency magnetic ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

High-Rate Space Coding for Reconfigurable 2x2 Millimeter-Wave MIMO Systems

open access: yes, 2015
Millimeter-wave links are of a line-of-sight nature. Hence, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems operating in the millimeter-wave band may not achieve full spatial diversity or multiplexing.
