Catalyzer: Sub-millisecond Startup for Serverless Computing with Initialization-less Booting
International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems, 2020Serverless computing promises cost-efficiency and elasticity for high-productive software development. To achieve this, the serverless sandbox system must address two challenges: strong isolation between function instances, and low startup latency to ...

Relativistic Shapiro delay measurements of an extremely massive millisecond pulsar
Nature Astronomy, 2019Despite its importance to our understanding of physics at supranuclear densities, the equation of state (EoS) of matter deep within neutron stars remains poorly understood. Millisecond pulsars (MSPs) are among the most useful astrophysical objects in the

Stippling is a popular and fascinating sketching art in stylized illustrations. Various digital stippling techniques have been proposed to reduce tedious manual work. In this paper, we present a novel method to create high-quality color stippling from an input image in milliseconds.

Nanosecond-millisecond combined pulse laser drilling of alumina ceramic.
Optics Letters, 2020A nanosecond-millisecond combined pulse laser (CPL) drilling method was proposed for drilling alumina ceramic. The total energy consumption of the CPL drilling was 1/7 of that of a conventional millisecond laser, and the drilling quality was better.

Measuring sub-millisecond delays in spiking activity with millisecond time-bins
Neuroscience Letters, 2009Recent evidence indicates that sub-millisecond delays in neuronal spiking activity may be relevant for neural coding. Estimates of these delays are usually made from cross-correlation histograms (CCH) binned to 1ms. We investigated the degree to which it is possible to measure delays with sub-millisecond precision when one computes CCHs with bin sizes >

Reconfigurable nanophotonic silicon probes for sub-millisecond deep-brain optical stimulation
Nature Biomedical Engineering, 2018The use of nanophotonics to rapidly and precisely reconfigure light beams for the optical stimulation of neurons in vivo has remained elusive. Here we report the design and fabrication of an implantable silicon-based probe that can switch and route ...

The radio properties of 4C21.53 have been an enigma for many years. First, the object displays interplanetary scintillations (IPS) at 81 MHz, indicating structure smaller than 1 are s, despite its low galactic latitude (−0.3°)1. IPS modulation is rare at low latitudes because of interstellar angular broadening. Second, the source has an extremely steep

This paper opens with a discussion of various methods of measuring short time intervals and then proceeds to describe a condenser chronoscope suitable for the measurement of intervals initiated and terminated by momentary or sustained makes or breaks in electrical circuits. The range is from 2 millisec to 1 000 millisec. The voltage on the condenser is

A study of the flux density and component emission of four millisecond radio pulsars shows that on average millisecond radio pulsars have steeper spectra than slow period pulsars. The results of flux density measurements of four millisecond pulsars, PSRs 1620-26, 1821-24, 1855+09, and 1937+21, have been made to determine their spectral indices in the ...

In this paper we briefly review the observed parameters of the presently known millisecond pulsars and the general ideas about their formation secenario. We describe the results of recent searche and unbiased surveys, and we discuss some possible observation strategies.
