3D sonar system based on mills cross antenna configuration

2014 Oceans - St. John's, 2014
A special aperture for a 3D sonar system is the so called Mills Cross antenna configuration. The Mills Cross arrangement looks like a “T” in which both antennas have a special function. In our work one antenna, consisting of 128 piezoelectric transducer elements, is used to transmit sound into a volume of interest.

A Brief History of the Northern Cross Radio Telescope

2023 8th IEEE History of Electrotechnology Conference (HISTELCON), 2023
The Northern Cross is the first Italian large radio telescope. The original design was a “Mills' cross” type configuration, with two arms of about 1.2Km, aligned in East-West and North-South directions, operating at 408MHz.

Simulations and Experiments with a 1D Interferometric Doppler Velocity Sonar

Oceans, 2023
The Interferometric DVL (InDVL) is a new instrument designed to be free from acoustic bias. The InDVL combines pulse-to-pulse phase comparison, used by all wideband Doppler sonars, with element-to-element phase comparison generally used for direction ...

Choice of the method of determining the energy-force parameters of the process of drawn of the stack through a bending-tensioning device

Fundamental and applied problems of ferrous metallurgy, 2023
In the practice of manufacturing metal products, shaped profiles of a complex configuration, including thin-walled, strip and periodic cross-section profiles, play a special role.

A re-configurable cross-sectional imaging system for reverse engineering based on a CNC milling machine

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2007
This paper presents a novel reverse engineering digitizing system for full part geometry, which is based on a cross-sectional imaging device built in a NC milling machine. The system successively captures a picture for each planar cross-section contour of the part by end-milling and CCD imaging, and builds the geometry for both external and internal ...

UHF Radar Sounding of Polar Ice Sheets

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2020
In this letter, we report on the design, development, and field operation of a surface-based multi-channel ultrawideband (UWB) ultrahigh frequency (UHF) radar to measure ice thickness, basal conditions, and ice-shelf bottom melt rates.

Dynamic Metasurface Antenna-Based Mills-Cross Aperture for 3-D Computational Microwave Imaging

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters
This work presents a computational imaging (CI) system capable of retrieving 3-D images of the area under inspection. The system is based on the use of two linear dynamic metasurface antennas (DMAs) specifically designed and fabricated for this purpose ...
