RECIFE-MILP: An Effective MILP-Based Heuristic for the Real-Time Railway Traffic Management Problem [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2015
The real-time railway traffic management problem consists of selecting appropriate train routes and schedules for minimizing the propagation of delay in case of traffic perturbation. In this paper, we tackle this problem by introducing RECIFE-MILP, a heuristic algorithm based on a mixed-integer linear programming model.

HEMS Operation via MILP

2018 Clemson University Power Systems Conference (PSC), 2018
Advanced technology in communication and control enables electric utility customers to provide assistance to the grid through demand side management (DSM) and home energy management systems (HEMSs). This capability may mitigate the variability from increased penetration of variable resources, such as wind and photovoltaics (PV) leading to grid ...

Fuzzy MILP Unit Commitment Incorporating Wind Generators

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2008
Day-ahead unit commitment (UC) solution methods seek to determine the status and output of all available generators. In a world with an increasing integration of renewable energy sources such as wind electric generators (WEG), the UC solution process must model and include WEGs too in the decision-making process.

Beyond LP and MILP Problems ⊖

2021
This chapter mentions several optimization problems which go beyond linear and mixed integer linear optimization. The focus is rather on motivation. Therefore, it is not intended to cover these topics in complete depth, but the reader should at least be aware that modeling real-world problems is not restricted to linear models.

The MILP Road to MIQCP

2011
This paper surveys results on the NP-hard mixed-integer quadratically constrained programming problem. The focus is strong convex relaxations and valid inequalities, which can become the basis of efficient global techniques. In particular, we discuss relaxations and inequalities arising from the algebraic description of the problem as well as from ...

Comparative evaluation of MILP flowshop models

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 2005
Summary: This paper investigates the performance of two families of mixed-integer linear programing (MILP) models for solving the regular permutation flowshop problem to minimize makespan. The three models of the Wagner family incorporate the assignment problem while the five members of the Manne family use pairs of dichotomous constraints, or their ...
