Biochemical Characterization of a Kunitz-Type Protease Inhibitor From Mimosa regnellii and Its Effects on Melanoma Cell Viability and Angiogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yesChem Biodivers
A Kunitz‐type serine protease inhibitor (JTI) purified from Mimosa regnellii seeds selectively targets melanoma cells. JTI triggers mitochondrial apoptosis, increases ROS and Ca2+ levels, arrests the cell cycle, and suppresses migration and angiogenesis without affecting healthy cells.

Real-time imaging of pulvinus bending in Mimosa pudica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Mimosa pudica is a plant that rapidly shrinks its body in response to external stimuli. M. pudica does not perform merely simple movements, but exhibits a variety of movements that quickly change depending on the type of stimuli.

Journey of water in pine cones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pine cones fold their scales when it rains to prevent seeds from short-distance dispersal. Given that the scales of pine cones consist of nothing but dead cells, this folding motion is evidently related to structural changes.
