Burkholderia nodosa sp. nov., isolated from root nodules of the woody Brazilian legumes Mimosa bimucronata and Mimosa scabrella [PDF]
Three strains, Br3437T, Br3461 and Br3470, were isolated from nitrogen-fixing nodules on the roots of Mimosa scabrella (Br3437T) and Mimosa bimucronata (Br3461, Br3470), both of which are woody legumes native to Brazil. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, all the strains were shown previously to belong to the genus Burkholderia.

Galactomannan from the seeds of Mimosa scabrella: a scale-up process
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 1997In view of the wide industrial applications of galactomannans as a thickening agent, those of Mimosa scabrella (bracatinga), a leguminous tree abundant in Southern Brazil, are under investigation. Seeds of bracatinga were processed on a pilot plant scale in order to obtain its galactomannan.

Study of solution properties of galactomannan from the seeds of Mimosa scabrella
Carbohydrate Polymers, 1992The rheological properties of the galactomannan from the seeds of a member of the Leguminosae have been studied. The sample used had a mannose/galactose ratio close to 1 and an intrinsic viscosity of 900 ml/g. The viscosity results are characteristic of a random coil polymer with a critical concentration c∗ = 2·6/[η] which is similar to the values ...

Water Saturation Stress in Mimosa scabrella Seedlings [PDF]
The stress caused by water saturation has negative consequences for plants. The search for species tolerant to flooded soils can make feasible the use of areas with these characteristics.

Interaction between the galactomannan from Mimosa scabrella and milk proteins
Food Hydrocolloids, 2002Abstract The rheological properties of mixtures of the galactomannan (G) from Mimosa scabrella Bentham and skim milk (SM), whole milk (WM) and skim milk powder (SMP), sodium caseinate (NaC) and purified casein fractions were investigated. The viscosity curves for the mixtures showed a pseudoplastic behavior, suggesting a protein–polysaccharide ...

Coffee shade with Mimosa scabrella Benth. for frost protection in southern Brazil
Agroforestry Systems, 1996Damage by radiative frosts is a major limiting factor for coffee cultivation in southern Brazil (south of 20° S latitude). The use of Mimosa scabrella (bracatinga) as a shade tree, to modify the local energy balance and thus prevent damage to the coffee plants, has been evaluated from 1986 to 1994. The study was carried out near Londrina, Parana State (

Desarrollo inicial de plantas de Mimosa scabrella bajo diferentes regímenes hídricos [PDF]
One of the main abiotic factors that influence the growth and development of plants is water, and consequently the use of water stress-tolerant species increases the chances of success of crops in these conditions.

Agroforestry systems (AFs) are an alternative to manage production in a sustainable manner and to adapt environments to climate change. Arabica coffee is sensitive to thermal extremes and could be one of the crops most affected by global warming. AFs can contribute to mitigate the effects of global warming through the sequestration of atmospheric ...

Soil attributes in coal mining areas under recovery with bracatinga ( Mimosa scabrella )
Letters in Applied Microbiology, 2019The coal reserves in the south of Brazil were intensely exploited at the time of great demand for such fuel. This resulted in changes in the environment, mainly in the chemical, physical and biological characteristics of the soil. Due to the potential to control erosive processes, increase soil quality and restore biological diversity, revegetation is ...

Abstract The galactomannan from Mimosa scabrella Bentham was extracted on a pilot plant scale and dried either by vacuum oven (GVO) or by spray-drier (GSD) to evaluate the effect of the drying technique on the powder quality and its applicability as excipient in solid dosage forms.
