Near‐Synchronous Cambrian Evolution of the Transbrasiliano‐Kandi‐4°50′ Shear Zone in South America and Africa

open access: yesTerra Nova, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 97-105, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The Transbrasiliano‐Kandi‐4°50′ (TK4) shear zone in western Gondwana crosscuts South America and NW Africa for at least 6000 km. Despite its impressive size, the timing of the main episode of dextral ductile shearing is uncertain. We present detailed in situ multi‐mineral geochronology of mylonites from both Brazil and Algeria supporting that ...

Potential distribution and susceptibility of Coffea arabica L. to climate change impacts

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 693-711, March 2026.
Ecological niche models (ENMs) are vital for understanding the impact of historical factors on ecosystems and predicting future climate change scenarios. These models help assess how environmental shifts affect agricultural species like coffee, which supports millions of people globally.

Brazil's Invisible Invaders: Are Craspedacusta Jellyfish a Ticking Ecological Bomb?

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The invasive freshwater jellyfish Craspedacusta sowerbii, likely of Asian origin, is globally distributed, yet its invasion history in South America remains poorly understood. Following a mass mortality event of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) during a jellyfish bloom in Paraná, Brazil, in March 2022, we conducted morphological and molecular ...

Depositional Interplay Between the Ancestral Rocky Mountains and Ouachita–Marathon–Sonora Orogenies: Insights From Provenance Records in the Late Palaeozoic Marfa Basin, West Texas, USA

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Provenance records from the late Palaeozoic Marfa Basin in West Texas reveal the transition from the Ancestral Rocky Mountains to the Ouachita–Marathon–Sonora orogenies during the early Permian in SW Laurentia. ABSTRACT The Marfa Basin in West Texas is a late Palaeozoic synorogenic depocenter associated with regional deformation linked to the Ancestral

Projections of Atmospheric Moisture Transport Over South America in a Changing Climate

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 2, February 2026.
End‐of‐century (2071–2100) climate projections show significant contrasts in atmospheric moisture over South America, with increased divergence over Northern Chile and Eastern Brazil and stronger convergence over the La Plata and Magdalena basins. Moisture convergence raises risks of extreme rainfall and floods, while divergence intensifies droughts ...

A new species from an inselberg in the Brazilian Atlantic forest: Stachytarpheta forzzae (Verbenaceae), supported by morphological, palynological and anatomical evidence

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 2, February 2026.
We describe Stachytarpheta forzzae, a new species from an inselberg located in the municipality of Guaratinga, state of Bahia, within the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Morphologically, it resembles S. sprucei, the only other species of the genus known to inhabit inselbergs.

Pollination ecology in the tropical Andes: moving towards a cross‐scale approach

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 2312-2345, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Plant–pollinator interactions structure ecological communities and represent a key component of ecosystem functioning. Pollination networks are expected to be more diverse and specialised in the tropics, but pollination ecology in these regions has been understudied in comparison to other areas.
