Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Prediction of Mine Water Inflow Based on Growth Curve Model

open access: yesAcademic Journal of Science and Technology
During the construction and operation of a coal mine, water inrush incidents frequently occur. Minor water-related accidents can cause delays in mining operations, while major incidents can result in significant losses and casualties. This paper takes a coal mine in Shanxi as a case study, employing growth curve models and optimal weighted coefficient ...

Designable van der Waals Crystal for Artificial Neuronal Cell Mimicking

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Designable van der Waals crystal has been demonstrated for device‐scale neuronal cell mimicking. The structural similarity between ion‐channel in biological membranes and layered vdW lattices is realized with nano‐crystallization via Ar + H2S plasma sulfurization.

Solving hydrogeological parameters of thick sandstone based on various analytical and numerical methods

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
In the process of coal mining, accidents such as water inrush in mines can not only cause huge economic losses, but also seriously threaten the safety of workers. Hydrogeological parameters play an important role in calculating the amount of water inflow

High Center‐of‐Mass, Multi‐Legged Soft Robots Powered by Geometrically Encoded Liquid Crystal Elastomer Arc Appendages

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by the octopus and the golden wheel spider, soft robots with liquid crystal elastomer arc fibers as appendages are fabricated to transcend surface constraints through an elevated center of mass and minimal contact footprints. By leveraging curvature‐encoded deformation‐recovery cycles, these robots exhibit contractile, torsional, and flexural ...

Piezo2 Mediates a Vicious Cycle of “Mechanical Homeostasis Imbalance—Inflammation” in Sensory Nerves and the Cartilage Endplate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a lumbar spine instability model, dorsal root ganglion cells mediate the perception of relevant mechanical stresses through Piezo2 and subsequently release CGRP. CGRP activates the NF‐κB signaling pathway in cartilage endplate cells through the receptor RAMP1.

A Rare Allele of ST5 From Wild Rice Enhances Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel salt‐tolerance gene ST5W, characterized by a unique 36‐bp promoter insertion, is found exclusively in a small subset of Oryza rufipogon and is absent in cultivated rice. Field trials confirm ST5W significantly enhances rice yield across diverse genetic backgrounds under saline conditions.

Studies of methane inflow from longwall floor into the mine atmosphere

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The results of studies assessing methane inflow from longwall floor are presented. Based on mine observation data, the facts of an increase in local gas release from the carbon massif caused by an increase in the reservoir properties of rocks have been confirmed.
