CK2α Deficiency Drives Myocardial Fibrosis via Desmin‐Induced Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CK2α preserves mitochondrial homeostasis by phosphorylating Desmin to recruit Cryab, ensuring proper filament assembly. CK2α deficiency disrupts this interaction, causing mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic shifts, bioenergetic failure, and oxidative stress—ultimately establishing a pro‐fibrotic environment that drives cardiac fibrosis.

How does the local wind field control the aerosol distribution in coastal Dronning Maud Land? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Atmospheric circulation patterns and chemical concentrations in firn cores are highly related to each other. Atmospheric winds transport aerosols like sea salt and mineral dust over the globe and redistribute them.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence With Droplet‐Based Microfluidics: Advances, Challenges, and Emerging Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Droplet‐based microfluidics enables precise, high‐throughput microscale reactions but continues to face challenges in scalability, reproducibility, and data complexity. This review examines how artificial intelligence enhances droplet generation, detection, sorting, and adaptive control and discusses emerging opportunities for clinical and industrial ...

Respirable Dust Exposure in Western Australian Mining: Trends, Variability, and Implications for Occupational Health

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Mining workers are exposed to a range of respiratory hazards, including respirable dust. While exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the mining industry has been found to be common, less is known about trends in measured levels of exposure to respirable dust overall.

Role of acid mobilization in projected response of soluble iron supply to improvement of air quality in the future [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Acidification of dust aerosols may increase aerosol iron (Fe) solubility, which is linked to mineral properties (e.g., crystallinity, grain size and impurity content).

Injectable Bone Cements: A Generational Framework for Bioactivity, Porosity, and Mechanobiological Design at the Nanoscale

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Key demographic, biological, and material considerations that drive the need for advanced injectable bone cement technologies. Injectable bone cements (IBCs) are widely used in orthopaedic and craniofacial applications due to their minimally invasive delivery and ability to provide early mechanical stabilisation.
