The formation of the chemical composition of groundwater in South Prohibiny using the example of "Predgorny" water intake

open access: yesVestnik MGTU, 2018
Researchers from Russia and foreign countries, studying medical and environmental contamination of drinking water, point to the relationship of public health with chemical composition of groundwater and anthropogenic inclusions. The aim of the work is to

A mineral reconnaissance survey of the Abington-Biggar-Moffat-area, south-central Scotland [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Panned heavy mineral concentrates, mostly obtained from stream sediments, were collected from 195 sites in the Abington-Biggar-Moffat area. The project area, which lies immediately east of the formerly important mining district of Wanlockhead ...

Charge‐Induced Morphing Gels for Bioinspired Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel electroactive actuation mechanism that enables the gel material to generate substantial and reversible shape‐changing while preserving topological and isochoric (volumetric) equivalence. The resultant morphing behaviors can mimic the movements of muscle‐driven organelles in nature, including cilia‐like beating and ...

Multi‐Ion Doping Controlled CEI Formation in Structurally‐Stable High‐Energy Monoclinic‐Phase NASICON Cathodes for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates the synthesis pathway, morphological feature, and thermodynamic feasibility of entropy‐engineered NASICON cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries. Abstract Overcoming the energy density limitations of sodium‐ion batteries (NIBs) requires innovative strategies to optimize cathode materials.

Monitoring programme of Finnish arable land : agua regia extractable trace elements in cultivated soils in 1998 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The main aim of this study was to produce internationally comparable knowledge on the status of cultivated soils in Finland. From the soil material collected during the latest sampling process under the national monitoring programme in 1998, 338 samples ...

Using microstructures and composition to decipher the alterations of rodent teeth in modern regurgitation pellets—a good news-bad news story

open access: yes, 2020
Rodent accumulations are widely used for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. But these accumulations are created through the activity of predators (carnivorous mammals, birds of prey), the predation and digestion of which modify the preservation of ...

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

Lithologies contributing to the clast population in Apollo 17 LKFM basaltic impact melts [PDF]

open access: yes
LKFM basaltic impact melts are abundant among Apollo lunar samples, especially those from Apollo 15, 16, and 17. They are generally basaltic in composition, but are found exclusively as impact melts.

Precursor Mineral Phases of Forming Mollusk Shell Nacre: A Study of Hydrated Samples

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mineral, organic phase, and water are the essential components in mollusk shell nacre formation. Their interplay is not well understood, because the hydrated material is difficult to observe at high resolution, under close to native conditions. Forming nacre is studied using environmental and cryo‐electron microscopy and hydrated ACC phases, together ...
