Impact of Overpressure on the Preservation of Liquid Petroleum: Evidence from Fluid Inclusions in the Deep Reservoirs of the Tazhong Area, Tarim Basin, Western China

open access: yesEnergies
The complexity of petroleum phases in deep formations plays an important role in the evaluation of hydrocarbon resources. Pressure is considered to have a positive impact on the preservation of liquid oils, yet direct evidence for this phenomenon is ...

Radula synthesis by three species of iron mineralizing molluscs: production rate and elemental demand

open access: yes, 2008
A cold-shock technique was used to determine radula production rates for the chitons Acanthopleura hirtosa and Plaxiphora albida, and for the limpet Patelloida alticostata, which replaced their radular teeth at rates of 0.40, 0.36 and 0.51 rows d-1 ...

Frailty Predicts Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk of frailty and osteoporosis, but the relationship between frailty and incident osteoporotic fractures in RA is underexplored. Methods Data were from the Veterans Affairs (VA) Rheumatoid Arthritis Registry. Frailty was measured using the VA Frailty Index (VAFI).

Biochar accelerates soil organic carbon mineralization via rhizodeposit-activated Actinobacteria

open access: yes, 2022
Biochar affects soil carbon (C) dynamics via shifting microbial community, but the active bacteria that regulate the rhizosphere-based C cycling remain to be identified.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

An Eco-Friendly Neutralization Process by Carbon Mineralization for Ca-Rich Alkaline Wastewater Generated from Concrete Sludge

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Waste-concrete recycling processes using wet-based crushing methods inevitably generate a large amount of alkaline concrete sludge, as well as wastewater, which contains abundant Ca ions. The Ca-rich alkaline wastewater must then be neutralized for reuse
