Effect of confining pressure on fracture characteristics and mineralogical behavior of tight sandstone specimens after hydraulic fracturing

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Hydraulic fracturing in tight sandstone and fracture propagation characteristics using backscattered electron‐scanning electron microscope (BSE‐SEM) images. Abstract This study focuses on hydraulic fracturing experiments conducted under triaxial conditions on tight sandstone specimens from Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Thermal Decomposition of the Murchison CM2 Carbonaceous Chondrite: Implications of Space Weathering Processes for Sample Return Missions [PDF]

open access: yes
Primitive carbonaceous asteroids are the target bodies for the JAXA Hayabusa2 mission to Ryugu and the NASA OSIRIS-REx mission to Bennu. Both asteroids share spectral characteristics of CI/CM type carbonaceous chondrites. Ryugu, in particular, appears to

Mineralogical characteristics and treatment of refractory gold ores

open access: yesMinerals Engineering, 1989
Abstract Refractory gold ores and concentrates are characterised by low gold recoveries and high cyanide consumptions when subjected to direct cyanide leaching. Therefore an oxidation pretreatment step is required before cyanidation that will break up the sulphide lattice and render gold particles accessible to cyanide ions.

Characterization of surficial units on Mars using Viking orbiter multispectral image and thermal data [PDF]

open access: yes
Albedo and thermal property correlations of the topography of Mars were conducted with emphases upon the types and origins of materials exposed in the central equatorial region. This area displays a wide variation in color, albedo and thermal properties,

Weathering microenvironments on feldspar surfaces: implications for understanding fluid-mineral reactions in soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The mechanisms by which coatings develop on weathered grain surfaces, and their potential impact on rates of fluid-mineral interaction, have been investigated by examining feldspars from a 1.1 ky old soil in the Glen Feshie chronosequence, Scottish ...

Mineralogy Characteristics of Sedimentary Bauxite in Western Guangxi

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2023
BACKGROUNDChina is the world’s largest aluminum producer and consumer. With the development of China’s aluminum industry, bauxite resources are consumed continuously and highly dependent on imports. In 2019, China’s imports exceeded 100 million tons of bauxite, with an increase of 21.9%, and in 2020, imports reached a record high of 110 million tons ...

Mineralogical and chemical characteristics of some natural jarosites

open access: yesGeochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2010
Abstract This paper presents a detailed study of the mineralogical, microscopic, thermal, and spectral characteristics of jarosite and natrojarosite minerals. Systematic mineralogic and chemical examination of a suite of 32 natural stoichiometric jarosite and natrojarosite samples from diverse supergene and hydrothermal environments indicates that ...
