Miniature implantable instrument measures and transmits heart function data [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Heart diameter is derived from measured transit time of 2.25 MHz ultrasonic pulse between two piezoelectric crystals attached to diametrically opposite heart surfaces.

Multistackable, Domino‐Overlapped CNT Scaffolds Homogeneously Hybridized with BTO‐P(VDF‐TrFE) for High‐Performance Piezoelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multilayer‐stackable carbon nanotuber (CNT) scaffold‐based piezoelectric nanogenerator (CPENG) with domino‐patterned CNT pillars presents high, stable output (12.3 V, size of 1 cm × 1 cm) over 2000 cycles, operates across a wide temperature range, and efficiently converts energy from real‐life stimuli through optimized CNT length, layer stacking, and

Reparable, high-density microelectronic module provides effective heat sink [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Reparable modular system is used for packaging microelectronic flat packs and miniature discrete components. This three-dimensional compartmented structure incorporates etched phosphor bronze sheets and frames with etched wire conductors.

Membrane Wrapping for High Capacity and Rapidly Switchable Adhesives

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A membrane‐wrapping mechanism enables high‐capacity, rapidly switchable adhesion by coupling suction, friction, and adhesion. Broadband performance is achieved in dry and underwater conditions, allowing fast, reversible manipulation of objects of diverse sizes and shapes, from delicate eggs and berries to flat, complex, or heavy objects. These outcomes

Log amplifier instrument measures physiological biopotentials over wide dynamic range [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
To record biopotentials with extreme dynamic ranges, biopotential inputs are capacitatively coupled to a miniature, low power, solid-state signal conditioner consisting of a two-stage differential preamplifier that has a low noise figure.

A Programmable Semiconductor Containing Active Molecular Photoswitches Located in the Crystal's Volume Phase

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach for the design of functional semiconductors is presented, which utilizes the excellent optoelectronic properties of layered hybrid perovskites and the possibility to introduce a molecular photoswitch as the organic spacer. This concept is successfully demonstrated on a coumarin‐based system with the possibility to change the bandgap ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.
