The effects of optically and digitally simulated aniseikonia on stereopsis. [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmic Physiol Opt, 2022
Abstract Purpose To simulate both lens‐induced and screen‐induced aniseikonia, and to assess its influence on stereopsis. Additionally, to determine if screen‐based size differences could neutralise the effects of lens‐induced aniseikonia. Method A four‐circle (4‐C) paradigm was developed, where one circle appears in front or behind the others because ...

Bone Transport for Large Segmental Tibial Defects Using Taylor Spatial Frame versus the Ilizarov Circular Fixator. [PDF]

open access: yesOrthop Surg
Bone transport has become the gold standard for treating segmental tibial bone defects. We compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of bone transport by using the Taylor spatial frame (TSF) and the Ilizarov circular fixator (ICF). TSF is a shorter and simpler procedure that causes fewer complications and improves limb alignment.

Some Generalizations of Weibull Distribution and Related Processes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Theory and Applications (JSTA), 2015
A new class of distributions containing Marshall-Olkin extended Weibull distribution is introduced. The role of this distribution in the study of minification process is established.

Efficient Direct Isosurface Rasterization of Scalar Volumes

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, Volume 41, Issue 7, Page 215-226, October 2022., 2022
Abstract In this paper we propose a novel and efficient rasterization‐based approach for direct rendering of isosurfaces. Our method exploits the capabilities of task and mesh shader pipelines to identify subvolumes containing potentially visible isosurface geometry, and to efficiently extract primitives which are consumed on the fly by the rasterizer.

0° vs. 180° CT localiser: The effect of vertical off‐centring, phantom positioning and tube voltage on dose optimisation in multidetector computed tomography

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 69, Issue 1, Page 5-12, March 2022., 2022
Phantom off‐centring and localiser direction evidenced large dose variation. The authors recommend the acquisition of a 0° localiser, to reduce the increase in the total organ doses resultant from patient off‐centring or the dedicated use of automated positioning tools such as a 3D camera.

Velocity‐Free Adaptation Compensation Control of MEMS with Prescribed Performance

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
This study investigates the prescribed performance control problem for microelectro‐mechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope subject to system parameters’ uncertainty. A finite‐time observer is firstly designed to estimate the unmeasurable velocity state of MEMS gyroscope.

A Lightweight Dangerous Liquid Detection Method Based on Depthwise Separable Convolution for X‐Ray Security Inspection

open access: yesComputational Intelligence and Neuroscience, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
For personal safety and crime prevention, some research studies based on deep learning have achieved success in the object detection of X‐ray security inspection. However, the research on dangerous liquid detection is still scarce, and most research studies are focused on the detection of some prohibited and common items.

An improved method for automated calculation of the water‐equivalent diameter for estimating size‐specific dose in CT

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 22, Issue 9, Page 313-323, September 2021., 2021
Abstract Purpose The aim of this study is to propose an algorithm for the automated calculation of water‐equivalent diameter (Dw) and size‐specific dose estimation (SSDE) from clinical computed tomography (CT) images containing one or more substantial body part.

Efficient Rendering of Ocular Wavefront Aberrations using Tiled Point‐Spread Function Splatting

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 182-199, September 2021., 2021
Abstract Visual aberrations are the imperfections in human vision, which play an important role in our everyday lives. Existing algorithms to simulate such conditions are either not suited for low‐latency workloads or limit the kinds of supported aberrations.

Measuring aniseikonia tolerance range for stereoacuity – a tool for the refractive surgeon

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 99, Issue 1, Page e43-e53, February 2021., 2021
Abstract Objective No method exists to measure aniseikonia tolerance in stereoacuity. The brain can compensate for 2%–3% aniseikonia (i.e. 2–3 dioptres of anisometropia) without impairing stereoacuity; however, a substantial proportion of anisometropic patients experience problems caused by disruptions of sensory fusion due to surgically induced ...
