An Adaptive Finite Element Method for Minimal Surfaces

open access: yes, 2003
Our aimis to compute surfaces of the topological type of the disc that are stationary points of the area functional. Since such computations may be very time consuming, we derive an a posteriori controlled adaptive algorithm based on a recently developed and analyzed finite element method [11] [12] [13]. Numerical results are presented for two examples.

Minisurf – A minimal surface generator for finite element modeling and additive manufacturing [PDF]

open access: yesSoftware Impacts, 2020
Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) have long been studied by mathematicians but have recently garnered significant interest from the engineering community as ideal topologies for shell-based architected materials with both mechanical and functional

Minimal Elements for the Prime Numbers

Experimental Mathematics, 2016
We say a string of symbols s is minimal for a language L if s is a member of L, and it is not possible to obtain another member of L by striking out one or more symbols from s. Although the set M(L) of minimal strings is necessarily finite, determining it explicitly for a given L can be a difficult computational problem.

Characterization of minimal elements in minimization problems with constraints

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1978
LetX be a compact Hausdorff space andC(X) be the set of all continuous functions defined onX. LetV⊂C(X), and consider the problem of minimizing supx∈XW[x,v(x)], withv∈V. The functionW is a generalized weight function and can be chosen such that certain constraints are included.
