The Planar Equitent Conjecture: Combining Isoperimetry and Minimal Surfaces

open access: yes, 2013
The goal of this project was to explore a new problem in geometric optimization: isoperimetric surfaces with both boundary and volume constraints. The idea behind the problem is the following: what is the optimal way to enclose a given volume with a ...

Broadband metamaterial absorber with enhanced angular stability using characteristic mode analysis

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The integration of broadband functionality, polarization insensitivity, angular stability, and low-profile design in metamaterial (MM) absorbers remains a significant challenge. This study introduces a novel design approach utilizing characteristic mode (

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

On finding minimal surfaces and their application to membrane structures.

open access: yes, 2008
Esta dissertação apresenta uma revisão histórica dos trabalhos acerca de superfícies minimais, ressaltando a pertinência da analogia entre a busca de superfícies de mínima área e a busca de formas de membranas estruturais sujeitas a um estado de tensões ...

Design strategies for enhancement of mechanical behaviour of hybrid cellular structures based on schwarz primitive geometry

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Hybrid cellular structures are gaining attention for their multi-functionality in load-bearing, heat-transfer, and energy-absorption applications. Schwarz Primitive(SCP)-based geometries, a subclass of Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS), with their ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
