Optimization of a railway wheel profile to minimize flange wear and surface fatigue
Wear, 2013Abstract Damage to wheels and rails due to wear and fatigue affects the safety and maintenance of railway vehicles. The present study optimizes profile of the wheel flange for reducing flange wear and surface fatigue on a curved track. The railway dynamic analysis program VAMPIRE is employed to calculate different loading conditions, contact pressure,

Optimizing machining parameters of carbon steel EN24 to minimize surface roughness and tool wear
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020Abstract EN 24 (817M40) is used for creating punches and dies due to its hardenability, it's very tough to machine, so we investigate the parameters affecting the surface roughness produced within the turning process for the carbon steel EN24. Design of experiments was conducted for the analysis of the influence of the turning parameters like cutting

An efficient geometry optimization algorithm based on interpolated potential energy surfaces with iteratively updated Hessians is presented in this work. At each step of geometry optimization (including both minimization and transition structure search), an interpolated potential energy surface is properly constructed by using the previously calculated

Desanding at the Wellhead for Optimal Well Productivity and Minimal Risks to Surface Facilities
Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference, 2016Abstract Wellhead desanding may increase the productivity of an oil/gas well as it opens the opportunity to a minimized choked-back production. Utilizing a wellhead desanding system upstream of the choke valve, minimizes the risk of erosion of the downstream equipment as for example; valves piping, etc.

Abstract Five-axis CNC machining of sculptured surfaces plays a significant role in aerospace industry, such as blisk machining. The key issue involved is the determination of cutter posture in tool path planning. As the interference will cause the cutter to intrude the workpiece or machine tool and then seriously damage the cutter or machine tool ...

In this paper we consider the problem of minimizing the scattered field intensity with respect to the boundary impedance. Usual optimization procedures based on gradient type local minimization algorithms will not be effective for this problem because the scattered field intensity is not a convex function of the impedance, and it has many local extrema.
