Using audit and feedback to increase clinician adherence to clinical practice guidelines in brain injury rehabilitation: v [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
ObjectiveThis study evaluated whether frequent (fortnightly) audit and feedback cycles over a sustained period of time (>12 months) increased clinician adherence to recommended guidelines in acquired brain injury rehabilitation.DesignA before and after ...

A Virtual Clinical Trial of Psychedelics to Treat Patients With Disorders of Consciousness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Disorders of consciousness after severe brain injury are marked by reduced complexity of brain activity and limited treatment options. Using personalized whole‐brain models, this study shows that simulated lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin shift patient brain dynamics closer to criticality.

Fluorinated Carnitine Derivatives as Tools to Visualise Carnitine Transport and Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorinated carnitines, fluoromethyl carnitine (FMC) and [18F]fluoromethyl carnitine ([18F]FMC), are synthesised and established as powerful probes to interrogate carnitine biology. The multimodal detection facilitated by fluorine labelling, including 19F NMR, mass spectrometry, and positron emission tomography imaging, allowed for visualisation of ...

The biological cost of consciousness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Some philosophers maintain that consciousness as subjective experience has no biological function. However, conscious brain events seem very different from unconscious ones.

Targeting G3BP1 Condensate Topology Promotes Stress Granule Assembly via m6A‐IGF2BP1 for Ischemic Stroke Rescue

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our research reveals that small‐molecule icariin (ICA) directly binds Ras‐GTPase‐activating protein SH3 domain‐binding protein 1 (G3BP1), inducing conformational change and oligomerization. This interaction confers neuroprotection by recruiting insulin‐like growth factor 2 mRNA‐binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1) and modulating N6‐methyladenosine (m6A ...

A Review on the Energy Storage Mechanisms of Transition Metal Sulfide and Selenide Cathode Materials for Non‐Aqueous Aluminum Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Herein is reviewed the current state of research on transition metal sulfides and selenides (TMSs/TMSes) used as cathode materials for rechargeable aluminum batteries (RABs). The three types of charge storage mechanisms encountered in these materials, as well as contradictions found in the literature, and future research pathways are discussed ...
