Diagnosis of Portal Hypertension: Advancing Towards Non‐Invasive Solutions

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes a full spectrum of non‐invasive diagnostic approaches for portal hypertension (PH), including imaging modalities, elastography, serum biomarkers, composite scoring systems and endoscopic ultrasound‐guided portal pressure gradient (EUS‐PPG), and analyzes their performance across different liver disease etiologies ...

Intelligent Continuum Micromachines in Complex Confined Spaces

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
The cover depicts a conceptual design for an intelligent continuum micromachine entering a target capsule used in fusion‐energy research through its slender gas‐fill tube. By combining route‐adaptive deformation, embedded sensing, and a functional end effector, the robot could inspect hidden defects, assess local conditions, and support localized ...

Cell‐Based Micro/Nanorobots: From Living Carriers to Living Therapeutic Specialists

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
Cell‐based micro/nanorobots integrate evolutionarily acquired biological intelligence with engineered capabilities, offering new opportunities for precision medicine in vivo. However, the complex physiological environments of different organs pose significant challenges to their clinical translation.

Cardiomyocyte Membrane‐Camouflaged Spinach Nano‐Thylakoids Enhance Myocardial Energy Metabolism and Ameliorate Heart Failure

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the construction of MM‐NTU, its cardiac‐targeting behavior, and its light‐activated therapeutic mechanism. Thylakoids isolated from spinach chloroplasts were processed into nano‐thylakoid units (NTU) and further camouflaged with cardiomyocyte membranes to generate MM‐NTU.

Thrombocytosis and tumour distribution predict outcome in dogs with hepatocellular carcinoma: A multi‐institutional retrospective analysis

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common canine hepatobiliary tumour. This study aimed to determine which criteria influenced outcome of HCC in a modern population of dogs across eight institutions. Methods The medical records of 106 dogs with HCC were retrospectively reviewed.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Minimally invasive cardiac surgery

Perfusion, 1998
In a short period of time, tremendous progress has been made in the field of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. The goal of true "minimally invasive" cardiac surgery should be a totally thoracoscopic or transvascular procedure that allows a very short hospital stay and prompt patient recovery at acceptable costs.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Surgical Innovation, 1996
Minimally invasive techniques have recently been introduced into cardiac surgical procedures. Opportunities to make coronary artery bypass less invasive include elimination or minimization of both incisions and cardiopulmonary bypass. The current spectrum of minimally invasive coronary bypass procedures range from the minimally invasive direct vision ...

Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Anesthesiology Clinics, 2013
The transition of mitral valve surgery away from the traditional sternotomy approach toward more minimally invasive strategies continues to evolve. The use of telemanipulative robotic arms with near 3-dimensional valve visualization has allowed for near complete endoscopic robotic-assisted mitral valve surgery, providing increased patient satisfaction ...
