[MINIMALLY INVASIVE GLAUCOMA SURGERIES].

Harefuah, 2019
The goal of all glaucoma surgery is to lower eye pressure to prevent or reduce damage to the optic nerve. Standard glaucoma surgeries - trabeculectomy, ExPRESS shunts and external tube-shunts like the Ahmed and Baerveldt valves - are major surgeries.

Angle-based Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery-procedures in glaucoma treatment

Medical Research Archives
Surgical procedures are playing an increasingly important role in the treatment of glaucoma. The mechanisms of increased intraocular pressure include structural alterations of tissue within the trabecular meshwork, in the chamber angle, Schlemm canal and

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery: Trabeculectomy Ab Interno

2013
Trabeculectomy ab interno with the trabectome (Neomedix, Tustin, CA) was FDA approved in 2004. It was originally described as using electrocautery to ablate trabecular meshwork, unroofing the nasal Schlemm’s canal over 30–60°. The first series of 37 patients was highly successful demonstrating a mean 42 % decrease in IOP from a baseline of 28 mmHg ...

[Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery using the trabectome].

Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde, 2015
The main barrier reducing outflow of aqueous humor in open angle glaucomas is the juxtacanalicular trabecular meshwork. The trabectome removes this pathophysiologically altered tissue by electroablation, thus allowing for the collector channels draining Schlemm's canal to directly communicate with the anterior chamber.
