Unbiased Estimates with Minimum Variance

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1950
Subject to certain restrictions, a characterization of unbiased estimates with minimum variance is obtained. For two fairly broad classes of problems, solutions are given which are more readily applicable. These are used to obtain such estimates in some particular cases.

Uniformly Minimum Variance Unbiased Estimation of Gene Diversity [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Heredity, 2003
Gene diversity is an important measure of genetic variability in inbred populations. The survival of species in changing environments depends on, among other factors, the genetic variability of the population. In this communication, I have derived the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of gene diversity.

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Some puzzles appearing in statistical inference

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique
Rao-Blackwell theorem is widely known to be a mathematically powerful technique that can be used to improve the precision of an estimator. The procedure entails exploiting a sufficient statistic to obtain an improved estimator or a uniformly minimum ...

Unbiased minimum variance estimation for systems with unknown exogenous inputs [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 1997
A new method is developed for the state estimation of linear discrete-time stochastic system in the presence of unknown disturbance. The obtained filter is optimal in the unbiased minimum variance sense. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and the stability of the filter are given.

On the Existence of an MVU Estimator for Target Localization with Censored, Noise Free Binary Detectors

open access: yes, 2015
The problem of target localization with censored noise free binary detectors is considered. In this setting only the detecting sensors report their locations to the fusion center.

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Estimation a Stress-Strength Model for P(Yr:n_1< Xk:n_2) Using the Lindley Distribution

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística, 2017
The problem of estimation reliability in a multicomponent stress-strength model, when the system consists of k components have strength each component experiencing a random stress, is considered in this paper. The reliability of such a system is obtained

Estimation of Stress-Strength Parameter for Burr Type XII Distribution Based on Progressive Type-II Censoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, the estimation of stress-strength parameter is considered When the strength and stress respectively are two independent random variables of Burr Type XII distribution.

Olaparib synergy screen reveals Exemestane induces replication stress in triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.
