Influence of pressure on the minimum fluidization velocity

Chemical Engineering Science, 1991
The influence of pressure on minimum fluidization velocity has been measured in a pressurized fluidized bed. Three different bed materials, corresponding to Geldart's group B or group D particles, were investigated at pressures between 0.1 and 1.6 MPa. The onset of fluidization was determined both visually and by pressure drop measurements. The results

Effect of operating temperature on minimum fluidization velocity

Powder Technology, 1991
We present experimental and literature data on the minimum fluidization velocity for operation at temperatures above ambient values. By regression analysis on the combined and transformed data, a new empirical correlation was developed. We investigate the effect of temperature on the minimum fluidization velocity of beds of different materials, such as

EVALUATION OF MINIMUM FLUIDIZING VELOCITY IN GAS FLUIDIZED BED FROM PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS*

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1985
A new experimental method for the evaluation of minimum fluidizing velocity in gas fluidized beds is proposed based on the pressure fluctuations measurements. The minimum fluidizing velocity is determined solely from the measurements in the fluidized bed regime, unlike the traditional method, where experiments in the fixed bed regime are also necessary.

Acoustic Field Effects on Minimum Fluidization Velocity in a 3D Fluidized Bed

Volume 2: Fora, 2012
Fluidized beds are used in a variety of process industries because they provide uniform temperature distributions, low pressure drops, and high heat/mass rates. Minimum fluidization velocity is an important factor in understanding the hydrodynamic behavior of fluidized beds, and this characteristic may be modified through high frequency (sound ...

Minimum fluidization velocity and defluidization behavior of binary-solid liquid-fluidized beds

Powder Technology, 2002
The minimum fluidization behavior of five different binary-solid systems with a wide range of composition is experimentally investigated by carrying out slow defluidization of an initially fluidized bed. The size ratios of these binaries vary from 4 to 10 while their buoyed-density ratios vary from 0.22 to 0.52 such that their larger components are ...

Minimum fluidization velocity at elevated temperatures and pressures

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1986
AbstractA procedure based on the Ergun equation to predict the minimum fluidization velocity at elevated temperatures and pressures and for different gaseous fluidizing agents has been discussed and shown to be applicable for practical purposes.

Minimum fluidization velocity in gas‐liquid‐solid minifluidized beds

AIChE Journal, 2016
The initial fluidization characteristics of gas‐liquid‐solid minifluidized beds (MFBs) were experimentally investigated based on the analyses of bed pressure drop and visual observations. The results show that ULmf in 3–5 mm MFBs can not be determined due to the extensive pressure drop fluctuations resulting from complex bubble behavior.

Minimum fluidization velocities of mixtures of biomass and sands

Energy, 2001
Abstract The present work reports studies on the fluidization of mixtures of biomass and sands. The biomass materials used are rice husk, sawdust and groundnut shell powder, and the sands employed are of two different densities and particle sizes.

Convective Heat Transfer at Minimum Fluidization Velocity for Gas-Solid Fluidized Beds

Heat Transfer: Volume 2, 1999
Abstract Experimentally measured values for the minimum fluidization velocities and time averaged local surface heat transfer coefficients are provided for 16 different cases of fluidizing conditions for gas-solid dense fluidized beds. Semi-empirical Correlations for the minimum fluidization velocity and the heat transfer coefficient at ...
