Reduction Kinetics of Fluxed Iron Ore Pellets Made of Coarse Iron Ore Particles

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 96, Issue 4, April 2025.
The present work evaluates possibility of using relatively coarser iron ore particles for iron making via agglomeration. The motivation is to reduce the energy consumption in milling of the iron ore. The results show that pellets made with coarser iron ore particles have improved reduction behavior and kinetics.

Simulation of Spring Discharge Using Deep Learning, Considering the Spatiotemporal Variability of Precipitation

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Sparse precipitation data in karst catchments challenge hydrologic models to accurately capture the spatial and temporal relationships between precipitation and karst spring discharge, hindering robust predictions. This study addresses this issue by employing a coupled deep learning model that integrates a variation autoencoder (VAE) for ...

Investigation of Suitable, Readily Available, Sources of Sulfate‐Reducing Bacteria Inoculum, and Evaluation of Sulfate Reduction Rates Achieved at Different pHs

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2025.
Selected sources of naturally occurring microbial communities were added to enrichment media to assess their ability to support the growth and activity of sulfate‐reducing bacteria at different pHs. Results showed that only two of the six sources evaluated; raw sewage (RS), and reed‐bed mud (RM), achieved appreciable reduction of sulfate to sulfide at ...

The Yenisei Makes the Weather: The Microclimate of the Krasnoyarsk Dam and Its Research, 1960s–1990s

open access: yesThe Russian Review, Volume 84, Issue 2, Page 249-266, April 2025.
Abstract When Soviet authorities began building the Krasnoyarsk Dam in 1956, the Yenisei River had an ice‐free period of only 112 days a year. The thick and long‐lasting ice impeded dam building and navigation. However, as the dam rose, it produced an environmental anomaly; for more than 200 kilometers downstream, the Yenisei became ice‐free year‐round.
