Exercise during 14 days of head down tilt bedrest attenuates motor unit impairments in older humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Head‐down tilt bedrest (HDBR) models the effects of mechanical unloading on neuromuscular function. The efficacy of exercise in preserving motor unit (MU) function in older adults during HDBR remains unclear. This study investigated the effects of 14‐day HDBR on MU properties in older adults and the protective role of exercise.

Impact of 14 days of head‐down bed rest and an exercise countermeasure on skeletal muscle atrophy, proteome and circulatory cytokines in older adults

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Prolonged bed rest and immobilization have deleterious effects on skeletal muscle mass and function, especially in older adults. These can lead to reduced physical capacity and quality of life. Previous experiments in younger individuals show that exercise can mitigate these effects, but evidence remains scarce and inconclusive in older adults.

When Does Hope Drive Social Change? Empirical Insights and Their Policy Implications

open access: yesSocial Issues and Policy Review, Volume 20, Issue 1, December 2026.
ABSTRACT When and how does people's hope for change drive social transformation? This question has gained urgency amidst the profound sociopolitical crises of the 21st century, including escalating intergroup conflicts, accelerating environmental degradation, and mounting threats to democracy.

LaZeTrack: An open‐source object detection algorithm to detect and track 2‐day‐old zebrafish motor touch responses

open access: yesQuantitative Biology, Volume 14, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Zebrafish are a model organism used for the study of vertebrate development, disease, and drug discovery. Two‐day old zebrafish exhibit burst swimming behavior that can be elicited by a light touch to the tail. Motor touch responses are frequently video‐recorded and later analyzed by hand.

Delomization, or the esoteric Nechung kang so, the Dalai Lama, and exilic imaginings of a Tibetan community

open access: yesJournal of Linguistic Anthropology, Volume 36, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract I propose the concept of delomization, the process whereby a sign comes to be understood as a symbol. I term such signs delomes. With rhematization and dicentization, delomization completes the triplet that linguistic anthropologists derive from Charles Sanders Peirce's third trichotomy.

Advanced Operando X‐Ray Absorption Spectroscopy for Catalysis at High Temperature and Pressure: Insights from the French Absorption Spectroscopy Beamline in Material and Environmental Sciences and French Absorption Spectroscopy Beamline in Material and Environmental Sciences at Ultra‐High Dilution Beamlines at European Synchroton Radiation Facility

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 7, July 2026.
Operando X‐ray emission spectroscopy (XAS) at industrial temperature and pressure is enabled at European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) by BM30 (FAME‐PIX) and BM16 (FAME‐UHD). High‐flux optics, a 16‐element HPGe detector and a 14‐crystal analyzer for high‐energy‐resolution fluorescence detection‐XAS/X‐ray emission spectroscopy (HERFD‐XAS/XES ...

Predicting the Complex, Multilevel Ecology of US County‐Level Diabetes Prevalence: A Cross‐Sectional, Artificial Intelligence Analysis

open access: yesDiabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, Volume 42, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Diabetes and its risk factors are embedded in a complex multilevel ecology. Upstream factors (i.e., ‘forcing factors’ that refer to fundamental population‐based social, economic, and political structures shaping health outcomes long before disease develops) and downstream risk factors (i.e., the individual‐level characteristics and ...

Effects of Water Diversion on Hydrological and Vegetation Dynamics in a Downstream Wetland Ecosystem

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
Process‐based eco‐hydrologic model quantified the impact of water diversion on the hydrologic cycle and vegetation changes in the downstream wetland. Reproducibility of simulation results implies the model includes important factors associated with hydrologic change and vegetation succession.
