Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Boosting Ferroelectricity: 2D and Polymer Ferroelectric Hybrids Enabling Ambipolar Nonvolatile MoS2 Memory Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two‐dimensional CuInP2S6 nanosheets are incorporated into a P(VDF‐TrFE) matrix to induce polarization‐cooperative ferroelectric coupling. The resulting P(VDF‐TrFE)/CuInP2S6 hybrid film exhibits reinforced ferroelectric ordering and reduced coercive electric fields compared with pristine P(VDF‐TrFE).

Effect of Liquid Miscibility Gap on Defects in Inconel 625–GRCop42 Joints through Analysis of Gradient Composition Microstructure

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
Joining of Cu-based dispersion-strengthened alloys to Ni-based superalloys has garnered increased attention for liquid rocket engine applications due to the high thermal conductivity of Cu-based alloys and high temperature tensile strength of Ni-based ...

Nanoscale Optical Inhomogeneities From Compositional Segregation Within Individual GaN‐on‐Si Quantum Wells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work visualizes local variations in luminescence and relates them to nanoscale chemical inhomogeneities in single InxGa1−xN quantum wells. We demonstrate that the elemental segregation is only inherent to quantum wells with high indium content. Density functional theory shows this to be the result of strain‐induced phase stabilization, explaining ...

An Experimental Assessment of the α + α’ Miscibility Gap in Fe-Cr

open access: yes, 2017
International audiencePhase separation in the Fe-Cr system has been studied experimentally. The upper limit of the miscibility gap and phase separation kinetics during the early stages of decomposition was studied using Vickers micro-hardness tests and ...

Ternary critical point determination of experimental demixion curve: calculation method, relevance and limits

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2013
In many cases of miscibility gap in ternary systems, one critical point at least, stable or metastable, can be observed under isobaric and isothermal conditions.

Balancing Bulk Solution Chemistry and Cation Solvation for Stable Aqueous Aluminum Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐scale electrolyte design balances bulk solution chemistry and cation solvation in aqueous aluminum batteries. Regulation of the bulk solution preserves high ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability, while modulation of the Al3+ solvation environment lowers desolvation penalties and suppresses hydrogen evolution. This balanced electrolyte

A Unifying Thermodynamic Model for Phase Separation and Aging of Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase separation and aging of intrinsically disordered proteins are placed in a unifying framework. A thermodynamically consistent time‐dependent version of associating‐polymer theory shows how the processes are intricately coupled. Assuming aging to occur through interacting sites resulting from reversible conformational transitions, the model ...

Enhanced Crystal Quality of AlxIn1-xAsySb1-y for Terahertz Quantum Cascade Lasers

open access: yesPhotonics, 2016
This work provides a detailed study on the growth of AlxIn1-xAsySb1-y lattice-matched to InAs by Molecular Beam Epitaxy. In order to find the conditions which lead to high crystal quality deep within the miscibility gap, AlxIn1-xAsySb1-y with x = 0.462 ...

Programming Structural Symmetry and Emission in Low‐Dimensional Hybrid Perovskites via Time and Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate programmable structural symmetry and emission in benzylammonium‐based low‐dimensional hybrid perovskites. Continuous shaking transforms orthorhombic platelets into a lower‐symmetry monoclinic phase with broadband emission, whereas thermal activation drives the reverse pathways toward a higher‐symmetry configuration resembling the ...
