Genome‐Wide Analysis Successfully Resolves Population Structure Shaped by Recent Divergence in the Endangered Bagrid Catfish Pseudobagrus ichikawai

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Using genome‐wide SNP data, we revealed previously undetected population structure in the endangered bagrid catfish Pseudobagrus ichikawai. Our results suggest that past paleo‐river systems shaped the current genetic connectivity across the Ise Bay area, while low genetic diversity indicates historical bottlenecks and recent inbreeding.

Bite‐DNA Shows Substantial Browsing on Willows (Salix spp.) by North American Bison in Yellowstone National Park

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Riparian willows in Yellowstone National Park are shaped by ungulate browsing, but species‐specific contributions remain unclear. Using bite‐DNA metabarcoding of browsed willow twigs across six northern range sites, we found that American bison were the most frequent browsers, exceeding elk and often mule deer.

Allelochemical and soil fungi co‐determine conspecific density dependence in a temperate forest

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Ecological theory predicts that the high local diversity observed in plant communities can be maintained by soilborne pathogens and allelopathic autotoxicity, both of which trigger negative conspecific density dependence (CDD). In contrast, mutualistic fungi and allelopathic promotion may counteract these biotic processes.

DNA‐ and RNA‐based microbial community diversity and composition in a deep agricultural subsurface environment

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Analysis of microbial community compositions in subsurface environments is essential because microbes significantly influence biogeochemical processes, including carbon storage, nutrient cycling, and groundwater quality. Many previous studies have relied on DNA‐based methods, which provide a robust taxonomic identification but can also ...

Astragalus Polysaccharide Improved DSS‐Induced Colitis in Mice By Remodeling the Gut Microbiota

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 2, April 2026.
Astragalus polysaccharides (AP) alleviate DSS‐induced colitis by reshaping gut microbiota, enhancing SCFA production, restoring metabolic pathways, and rebalancing inflammatory cytokines. Microbiota‐depletion experiments confirm that AP therapeutic effect is microbiota‐dependent, highlighting AP as a promising microbiome‐modulating strategy for ...
