Photovoltaic mismatch losses caused by moving clouds

open access: yesSolar Energy, 2017
Abstract Mismatch losses is a major issue in the photovoltaic (PV) system and are mainly caused by partial shading; largest mismatch losses are caused by sharp shadows. These shadows are a typical problem for rooftop and residential installations.

Security proof of practical quantum key distribution with detection-efficiency mismatch

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
Quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols with threshold detectors are driving high-performance QKD demonstrations. The corresponding security proofs usually assume that all physical detectors have the same detection efficiency.

Addressing the Loss-Metric Mismatch with Adaptive Loss Alignment

open access: yes, 2019
In most machine learning training paradigms a fixed, often handcrafted, loss function is assumed to be a good proxy for an underlying evaluation metric. In this work we assess this assumption by meta-learning an adaptive loss function to directly optimize the evaluation metric.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Calculation of Site Attenuation for Calculable Dipole Antennas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science, 2020
This paper presents a method for calculating the site attenuation (SA) of an open-area test site (OATS) for a pair of calculable dipole antennas with a 3-dB hybrid balun in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 1 GHz.

The eleven antenna: a compact low-profile decade bandwidth dual polarized feed for reflector antennas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A novel dual polarized ultrawide-band (UWB) feed with a decade bandwidth is presented for use in both single and dual reflector antennas. The feed has nearly constant beam width and 11 dBi directivity over at least a decade bandwidth.

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.

LambdaFM: Learning Optimal Ranking with Factorization Machines Using Lambda Surrogates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
State-of-the-art item recommendation algorithms, which apply Factorization Machines (FM) as a scoring function and pairwise ranking loss as a trainer (PRFM for short), have been recently investigated for the implicit feedback based context-aware ...

Assessing the sensitivity and the clinical impact of the 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria in Obstetric Antiphospholid Syndrome: findings from a multicenter Italian cohort with a long‐term follow‐up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective To evaluate the sensitivity of the 2023 ACR/EULAR classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in a real‐world cohort of women diagnosed with primary obstetric APS (oAPS), and to assess their ability to identify patients at risk of future pregnancy complications.
