A rapid, simple DNA mismatch repair substrate construction method

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2011
A more flexible and higher yielding in vitro DNA mismatch repair (MMR) substrate construction method, which was developed initially by Wang and Hays, is described for the construction of a nucleotide-based chemical mismatch (G/IU) and a G/T mismatch. Our

Cell-Selective Biological Activity of Rhodium Metalloinsertors Correlates with Subcellular Localization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Deficiencies in the mismatch repair (MMR) pathway are associated with several types of cancers, as well as resistance to commonly used chemotherapeutics.

Immune Evasion of Helicobacter pylori and Extra‐Gastric Cancer Risk

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a group 1 gastric carcinogen that plays a significant role in extra‐gastric digestive system cancers. H. pylori disrupts host cell homeostasis through expression of virulence factors leading to immune evasion as well as persistent gastric mucosal colonization. H. pylori infection has been shown to play a role

Targeting MMR-deficient colorectal cancer with a potent small molecule UNI110

open access: yesAnimal Cells and Systems
Mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency is a hallmark of microsatellite instability (MSI) in hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer, Lynch syndrome, contributing to resistance against conventional chemotherapy and posing a significant therapeutic challenge.

Metallo-intercalators and metallo-insertors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Since the elucidation of the structure of double helical DNA, the construction of small molecules that recognize and react at specific DNA sites has been an area of considerable interest.

Effective When Distinctive: The Role of Phonetic Similarity in Nested Dependency Learning Across Preschool Years

open access: yesLanguage Learning, EarlyView.
Abstract Parallel tracking of distant relations between speech elements, so‐called nonadjacent dependencies (NADs), is crucial in language development but computationally demanding and acquired only in late preschool years. As processing of single NADs is facilitated when dependent elements are perceptually similar, we investigated how phonetic ...

Direct evidence of singlet molecular oxygen [O2 (1Δg)] production from UVA excited 6‐thioguanine

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
6‐Thioguanine (6‐TGua) is incorporated into DNA as a purine analogue, inhibiting cell replication. Patients treated with 6‐TGua are more prone to developing skin cancer due to the photoexcitation of 6‐TGua by UVA radiation (as illustrated in the Jablonski diagram). Upon exposure to UVA, the excited 6‐TGua generates 1O2.

Replication stress triggers microsatellite destabilization and hypermutation leading to clonal expansion in vitro

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Mismatch repair (MMR)-deficient cancers are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI) and hypermutation. Here authors reveal a mechanism by which replication stress induces MSI and associated induction of mutations in vitro.

Relationship between Mismatch Repair (MMR) Status and Chemotherapy Response in Colorectal Carcinoma

open access: yesMajalah Patologi Indonesia
Background Colorectal carcinoma has several pathways that play a role in normal colonic mucosa development into carcinoma, one of microsatellite instability (MSI) pathway. This pathway results from a deficiency in one of the MMR proteins that normally repair genome damage, leading to microsatellite instability high (MSI-H) and excessive mutations. MSI-
