Estimating the Decayed, Missing, and Filled permanent Teeth (DMFT) index of the University of Split student population using the Monte Carlo method

open access: yesST-OPEN
Aim: To generate data for the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Permanent Teeth (DMFT) index of the entire student popu-lation of the University of Split from three samples of differ-ent sizes using the Monte Carlo method. Methods: We collected data during clinical exercises in the courses ‘Restorative Dental Medicine 2’ and ‘Endodontics 2.’ All participants

The musculature and skeleton of the pelvic fin of the crocodile shark, Pseudocarcharias kamoharai (Matsubara, 1936) (Elasmobranchii: Lamniformes): Morphology and sexual dimorphism

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This work brings new information on the sexual characteristics of the crocodile shark (Pseudocarcharias kamoharai) exploring the pelvic fin musculature, as well as the siphon sac and the musculature and skeleton of the clasper. Our paper is the first to point out clearly the sexual dimorphism related exclusively to the pelvic fin musculature in males ...

Different shape but the same topographical complexity—The lingual gross anatomy of the Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite the distinctly different shapes of their tongues, the tongue gross anatomy of Saimaa ringed seal closely resembled that of Baltic ringed seal. There were no differences in the extrinsic and intrinsic tongue muscles or their associated vascularization and innervation between Saimaa and Baltic ringed seals.

Association between Body Mass Index and Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) in 12-year-old School Children

open access: yesThe Open Dentistry Journal
Introduction The body mass index (BMI) helps assess weight and height. Tooth decay is a multifactorial and infectious disease that causes demineralization of the teeth and has a high worldwide prevalence. The study aimed to evaluate the association between the body mass index (BMI) and the decay, missing, and ...

Multivariate Analysis of Hematological Stress Biomarkers and Welfare Domains in Organic and Intensive Pig Farming in Italy: A Pilot Study

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Intensive or organic farming systems may expose pigs to management or environmental challenges. Our preliminary results concluded that organic farming might enhance adaptive immune function, showing that improvements in welfare can translate into measurable immunological benefits, based on the correlation between welfare assessment and physiological ...

Targeting neutrophil extracellular traps in metabolic and immune niche: Nanomaterials for diabetes tissue regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The effects of NETs on regeneration of various diabetic tissues, and strategies targeting NETs for diabetes tissue regeneration. In the diabetic environment, NETs undergo complex metabolic and immune reprogramming, leading to dynamic changes in antibacterial and proinflammatory functions, and affecting regeneration of multiple systemic tissues.
