Slow-Release Toxicity Resulting from Fumigation with Selected Essential Oils Against Fungivorous Mite, Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Acari: Acaridae) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection and Pathology
The fungivorous mite, (Tyrophagus putrescentiae Schrank) is an important pest infesting several economic stored grain products. The efficacy of essential oils against the fungal-feeding mite were evaluated by the evaporation method, at the laboratory of ...

Insect Protein-Based Diet as Potential Risk of Allergy in Dogs

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Before insects can be used widely as an alternative source of dietary protein, their allerginicity should be investigated. Therefore, the aim of our study was to assess the potential adverse reactions of the immune system of dogs against Tenebrio molitor

Comparison of thread-cutting behaviour in three specialist predatory mites to cope with complex webs of Tetranychus spider mites

open access: yes, 2009
Anti-predator defenses provided by complex webs of Tetranychus mites can severely impede the performance of generalist predatory mites, whereas this may not be true for specialist predatory mites.

Predicting the population dynamics of the house dust mite 'Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus' (Acari: pyroglyphidae) in response to a constant hygrothermal environment using a model of the mite life cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A generalised model of the life cycle of a house dust mite, which can be tailored to any particular species of domestic mite, is presented. The model takes into account the effects of hygrothermal conditions on each life cycle phase.

Verified and potential pathogens of predatory mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae)

open access: yes, 2008
Several species of phytoseiid mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae), including species of the genera Amblyseius, Galendromus, Metaseiulus, Neoseiulus, Phytoseiulus and Typhlodromus, are currently reared for biological control of various crop pests and/or as model ...

Pest species diversity enhances control of spider mites and whiteflies by a generalist phytoseiid predator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To test the hypothesis that pest species diversity enhances biological pest control with generalist predators, we studied the dynamics of three major pest species on greenhouse cucumber: Western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande ...

Presence and diversity of Chlamydiae bacteria in Spinturnix myoti, an ectoparasite of bats

open access: yesParasite, 2020
Chlamydia spp. and Chlamydia-like organisms are able to infect vertebrates such as mammals, reptiles and birds, but also arthropods and protozoans. Since they have been detected in bats and bat feces, we expected Chlamydiae bacteria to also be present in

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Ecology and Evolution of Gall-Inducing Arthropods: The Pattern From the Terrestrial Fossil Record

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Insect and mite galls on land plants have a spotty but periodically rich and abundant fossil record of damage types (DTs), ichnotaxa, and informally described gall morphotypes.

Eriophyoid mites (Acari: Prostigmata: Eriophyoidea) from the Maltese Islands (Central Mediterranean): new reports and a preliminary check-list [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the 20th Century, about 20 species of eriophyoids were listed for the Maltese Islands but these reports were entirely based on plant gall surveys.
