Functional morphology of the seminal receptacle of Mithrax, Mithraculus and Omalacantha spider crabs (Brachyura: Mithracidae)

open access: yesTissue and Cell, 2022
Most Majoidea crabs display high sperm competition rates due to the development of spermatic strata within the seminal receptacle (SR). To verify the occurrence of sperm competition, SR anatomy and histochemistry analyses were performed in Mithrax hispidus, Omalacantha bicornuta, and Mithraculus forceps.

[Morfogeometry shell crab Damithrax spinosissimus (Decapoda: Mithracidae) on three islands in the southwestern Caribbean].

open access: yesRevista de biologia tropical, 2018
The Caribbean King Crab, Damithrax spinosissimus is a fishery resource, but few biological studies are available. Its patchy distribution, and the high environmental heterogeneity due to the oceanographic, landscape, and ecological characteristics of the Caribbean Sea, can favor the phenotypic variability according to the geographic origin.

Larval development of the crab Amphithrax hemphilli (Rathbun, 1892) (Decapoda, Brachyura, Mithracidae) described from laboratory-reared material

open access: yesZootaxa, 2022
The complete larval development of Amphithrax hemphilli was described, illustrated, and compared with that of the previously described larvae of the genus Mithrax sensu lato. Specimens of A. hemphilli were sampled from the northeastern Brazilian coast. The larval development of A. hemphilli consisted of two zoeal stages and one megalopa.

Morphology and ultrastructure of the adult ovarian cycle in Mithracidae (Crustacea, Decapoda, Brachyura, Majoidea) [PDF]

open access: yesHelgoland Marine Research, 2017
The ultrastructure of the ovary during development and yolk production is poorly known in Brachyura and Majoidea in particular. Here, we describe the histology, histochemistry and ultrastructure of the adult ovarian cycle in four Mithracidae species from three different genera: Mithrax hispidus, Mithrax tortugae, Mithraculus forceps and Omalacantha ...

NEW RECORD OF THE SPIDER CRAB MITHRAX TORTUGAE RATHBUN, 1920 IN THE NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL, FIRST RECORD ON THE COAST OF RIO GRANDE DO NORTE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The Northeast region of Brazil has gaps in the distribution of several species of crustaceans. In the last decade, the increase in the sampling effort and the elaboration of species lists have minimized this problem.

The highly rearranged mitochondrial genomes of the crabs Maja crispata and Maja squinado (Majidae) and gene order evolution in Brachyura [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We sequenced the mitochondrial genomes of the spider crabs Maja crispata and Maja squinado (Majidae, Brachyura). Both genomes contain the whole set of 37 genes characteristic of Bilaterian genomes, encoded on both \u3b1- and \u3b2-strands.
