Platelet reactivity in MitraClip patients

Common complications during MitraClip procedure are bleeding and ischemic events. The right strategy of platelet inhibition is unknown and challenging, as there are substantial interindividual response-variabilities to antiplatelet drugs and additionally, many MitraClip patients are on permanent oral anticoagulation because of atrial fibrillation.

MitraClip system is the only catheter-based device for percutaneous mitral valve repair available for clinical use, after receipt of the CE Mark in 2008, while it is currently under review for FDA approval in the US. To date, over 3500 MitraClip implants have been performed worldwide, mainly in high risk surgical patients.
