Quantification of mitral regurgitation using transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging [PDF]

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Both Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) have well-established role in mitral regurgitation (MR) quantification for optimal management strategy.

An orifice shape-based reduced order model of patient-specific mitral valve regurgitation

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2021
Mitral valve regurgitation (MR) is one of the most prevalent valvular heart diseases. Its quantitative assessment is challenging but crucial for treatment decisions.

The evolving role of cardiovascular magnetic resonance in the assessment of mitral valve prolapse

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP), characterized by a displacement > 2 mm above the mitral annulus of one or both bileaflets, with or without leaflet thickening, is a common valvular heart disease, with a prevalence of approximately 2% in western countries.

Comparative modeling of the mitral valve in normal and prolapse conditions [PDF]

open access: yesBioImpacts, 2023
Introduction: Computational modeling is one of the best non-invasive approaches to predicting the functional behavior of the mitral valve (MV) in health and disease.

Determinants of regurgitant volume in mitral regurgitation: contrasting effect of similar effective regurgitant orifice area in functional and organic mitral regurgitation [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal - Cardiovascular Imaging, 2011
Quantitative assessment of the severity of mitral regurgitation (MR) is based on the calculation of the effective regurgitant orifice (ERO), a measure of lesion severity, and of the regurgitant volume (RVol), a measure of left ventricular volume overload.

New PASCAL Ace implant system in complex percutaneous mitral valve repair

open access: yesREC: Interventional Cardiology (English Ed.), 2022
To the Editor, We present the case of a 73-year-old woman with arterial hypertension, morbid obesity (122 kg, body mass index = 44), and chronic lower limb swelling with recurrent skin infections due to multi-drug resistant microorganisms.

Echocardiographic evaluation of the functional mitral regurgitation after cardiac resynchronization therapy: which is the best approach? [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of the Balkan Medical Union, 2020
A strong association between functional mitral regurgitation severity and all-cause mortality and hospitalization was found in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular systolic dysfunction, with or without an implanted device.

Echocardiography vs. CMR in the Quantification of Chronic Mitral Regurgitation: A Happy Marriage or Stormy Divorce?

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, 2023
Quantification of chronic mitral regurgitation (MR) is essential to guide patients’ clinical management and define the need and appropriate timing for mitral valve surgery.

Role of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Native Valvular Regurgitation: A Comprehensive Review of Protocols, Grading of Severity, and Prediction of Valve Surgery

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Valvular regurgitation is common in developed countries with an increasing prevalence due to the aging of the population and more accurate diagnostic imaging methods.

Resolution of severe secondary mitral valve regurgitation following aortic valve replacement in infective endocarditis

open access: yesSAGE Open Medical Case Reports, 2021
We present the case of a patient with infective endocarditis anesthetized for replacement of severely regurgitant aortic valve. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography revealed a new diagnosis of severe secondary mitral regurgitation.
