Complicated Mitral Valve Repairs
Cardiology in Review, 2001The standard of care for mitral regurgitation secondary to degenerative valvular disease is mitral valve repair whenever possible. Mitral valve repair is associated with better left ventricular function preservation, fewer complications, and improved survival as compared with mitral valve replacement.

Mitral valve repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation
Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, 2007Mitral valve repair for degenerative mitral regurgitation is nowadays one of the most common valvular procedures. Different technical modifications were added to the original Carpentier's method, trying to maximise the stability of the results and to reduce the incidence of immediate complications and of late failure of the correction. Survival is good,

Mitral-Valve Repair for Mitral-Valve Prolapse
New England Journal of Medicine, 2009A 55-year-old man presents with a holosystolic murmur of increasing intensity and is given a diagnosis of mitral-valve prolapse with severe mitral regurgitation. He is asymptomatic but has mildly depressed left ventricular function and mild left ventricular enlargement. Mitral-valve repair is recommended.

Mitral valve repair for ischemic mitral insufficiency
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1991Over a 5-year period, 1,292 patients had operation on their native mitral valves. Ischemia was the cause of mitral insufficiency in 84 patients (6.5%). Sixty-five patients (77.4%) had mitral valve repair. Mean age was 66 +/- 10 years; 35 patients (53.8%) were women.

Mitral valve repair for traumatic mitral regurgitation
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2015Mitral valve injury after blunt chest trauma is a rare clinical condition. We describe a case of mitral valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation due to blunt chest trauma 5 years previously. A 22-year-old man was referred to our hospital for surgical correction of severe mitral regurgitation.

Mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation
Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2005Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a common complication after acute myocardial infarction due to annulus dilatation and papillary muscles displacement. In our opinion 3/4 and 4/4 IMR have always to be indicated for MV surgery. In presence of low EF and dilated LV, moderate (2/4) IMR has to be corrected.

Functional mitral stenosis following mitral valve repair
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2017This review summarizes the evidence describing functional mitral stenosis (MS) following surgical mitral valve repair.Functional MS is an evolving concept and has been implicated in the repair of functional and organic mitral regurgitation. Following repair of functional mitral regurgitation, an elevation in peak transmitral gradient and pulmonary ...

Mitral Valve Repair for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation
Angiology, 2008Our aim was to evaluate midterm results in patients who underwent mitral valve repair (MVR) for ischermic mitral regurgitation (IMR) in our most recent experience. From March 2006 to March 2008, 105 patients underwent MVR for IMR. Mean IMR grade was 2.6 ± 1.1, with 46 patients having ≤2/4 and 59 ≥3/4.

Mitral valve repair for significant mitral insufficiency
American Heart Journal, 1978There has been skepticism since the early days of open heart surgery that good long-term or even short-term results were possible with repair of pure mitral insufficiency. The authors report 145 patients in whom a markedly insufficient mitral valve was repaired 6 months to 17 years previously and another 55 patients in whom repair of the insufficient ...

Transcatheter mitral valve repair - transcatheter mitral valve annuloplasty
EuroIntervention, 2014Percutaneous mitral valve therapies have emerged as an alternative option for high-risk patients with mitral regurgitation. Multiple technologies and diversified approaches are today under clinical study or in development and they can be categorised based on the anatomically and pathophysiologically addressed target.
